Yes, there are good ones and bad ones out there. The community I live in is only big enough to support 1 major dealer for each brand, so they have a monopoly and I expected them to at least try, but the guy I worked with did not.

There is some truth to the scarcity though. They only kept the order banks for the 2023's open for 3 business days and now all 2023 allocations are filled.

Yes... If you want one you're going have to play the game especially the Hybrid. I will pay a little more, but if it reaches into the Ranger price then I will get a Ranger.. well the wife will. I have a F150 that I'm completely happy with.

I do have a "connection", but I'm not a fan of having people doing me favors.

I think short sighted dealers tried that markup crap, but those who actually care to earn customers long term did not.

I had a similar experience where a salesman lied to my face about the same car also available at a dealer across town. I had 2 test drives scheduled, I didn't even bother to test drive the 2nd car, I just bought it out of spite. My wife bought a car from the same dealer I did less than 3 months later so the 1st dealer missed out on 2 sales. They will miss out on a 3rd since I could have chosen them for my Bronco, but instead picked the smaller in-town dealer instead.

Any word on the progress? I just read that they are cancelling 2022 orders, but switching them over to 2023.

We are in "queue" for a 2023 hybrid, but whatever that means or even when we move onto production is anyone guess.

I have not heard anything specifically about my order other than an email confirmation from Ford. I did hear that they rolled over unfulfilled 2022 orders to 2023 models, and I believe gave said order holders a discount to offset the 2023 price increase.

I actually found a very active maverick forum that has dealers and others offering some real time information, but also a crap-ton of speculation. I try to stay away as it's mostly the latter. Based on the stats shared there though, it looks like the Hybrid made up a large majority of the orders - something like 75%, and that they may have significantly oversold on that side. I ordered an ecoboost so theoretically that is good news for me, but maybe bad news for you. I also found that there are some specific options that possibly slow down your chances of getting to production, and that you can change things to a point - but not major changes. For example I added remote start after the fact, but you cant switch from Hybrid to Ecoboost, or change trim levels.

I'm pretty content to just let it ride and see what happens, but this is also not a primary vehicle for me.

When I decided I wanted a Toyota Tacoma I started searching around. I went to one of the largest Toyota dealers in the area. They had one I liked so I told the guy I was interested in it and I wanted to know how much were they asking. He said he did not know but invited me to have a seat at his desk and he would find out. He was gone for about 10 minutes. He came back and his first question was whether I had a trade in. I told him yes, I was seeking to trade in my Jeep Wrangler. He started asking me all about the Jeep, year, model, etc. He wanted all my contact info etc. I was getting impatient so I finally I asked him again how much were they asking for the truck but I still did not get an answer. Instead he started asking me about what kind of payment range was I looking for. I had a check book in my pocket and was not sure if I even wanted to make payments. Money was very cheap at the time and I was inclined to use theirs versus mine but I was obviously getting the run around. So I got up and left.

That evening I saw that truck on the inner web and it had a price on it. The price seemed fair. The next morning I went back down there. When I got there I asked for the guy and they went lookin for him. Meanwhile another young fellow was standing there so I pointed at the truck and asked him how much were they asking. He said he did not know. I commented on how hard it was to find out how much a vehicle cost their. He proceeded to tell me that if someone told me how much it cost it was probable wrong because they do not know. Wtf?!

I told him the price that was listed on the inner web for that truck. He then tells me that is not actually the price that there is probably some fine print I did not see. So I walked away got in my Jeep and left. I headed straight for another Toyota dealer. While in route the guy I has talked to the first day and had paged that day called me. He apologized and said he had gone on a biscuit run for breakfast. I told him I was headed to the other dealer with my check book and I was going to purchase a truck. I told him I like the one they had but because they would not tell me how much it cost I could not deal with them. I told him if that is their sales model he needs to tell them how I felt about it and that it cost them a sale.

I bought a nice Tacoma at the other dealership and everything went fine. It was a completely different experience. Turns out the Tacoma was not much of a truck when it came to towing so I get rind of it and went back to what I know, a Ram diesel.

It's tough everywhere these days. I had my car in for service and the dealership had two -- yes two! -- cars in the showroom. The rest was filled with snow tires.

They keep sending me notes saying that they want to buy my car, but never suggest what I would replace it with.

Surprisingly, I think the tables are once again turning and in rapid fashion. Just within the last week several of our local lots have not only added actual new vehicles in stock, but some are even offering reduced prices UNDER msrp, especially on trucks. Our local ford dealer actually has 8 or 9 new F150s in stock for sale, not spoken for. I also was kicking the tires on a full size SUV and one of our local dealers told me they are dropping prices on used vehicles significantly, expecially on trucks and full size vehicles as the inventory has risen significantly for used too, and the rising gas prices are moving people back towards more efficient vehicles in general.

A lot of sling shot effects is going to happen in a lot of businesses. Cash tied up in inventory and then they will have to sell to free up cash.

All these fools who paid thousands over MSRP are going to wish they had just waited it out instead of needing the hot new thing...

I still see crazy prices on the lots here and a whole lot of used cars/trucks where there should be new ones.

Wouldn't it depend, since used cars are going for a higher price as well. If you sold your car or traded it then it wouldn't it be relative at this point. When the bottoms drops out and there is too much inventory then a used car isn't going to be worth as much.

Trucks and larger aren't moving because the cost of fuel.

I have to laugh when my local dealer sends me email with "Just Lowered" 2022 F150 Raptor for $96K.. Not sure I would ever pay that for a vehicle let alone 50k.

I wouldn't pay more than $96.00 for one of these 4 door sedans with a missing trunk lid.
I once had a 1964 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop with a bigger trunk than these things have with half a pickup bed!
One time we slept three adults in the trunk when a camping trip got rained out. :D

Not often you have a 3rd wheel AND a spare tire.

@uwmcscott I thought about you yesterday when I saw this. It also reminded my of my Maverick back in the day. This one was fully restored to like new condition inside and out. Either that or it has been in a garage since it was purchased and rarely driven.

That looks like a nice specimen indeed. One of my high school buddies had a Maverick that wasn't so nice - the rear seat floorboards were about half there, and I think it had a straight 6 and a 3 on the tree manual shifter. I'm not even sure if was capable of getting to 60mph so 0-60 was not likely measurable. But we still had a lot of fun with it and it got us where we needed to go.

It is interesting that people are starting to restore more of the "common" cars from that era now, I guess all the muscle cars and 2-doors have been found. I saw a fully restored AMC Pacer at a car show this summer.

That's why guys are making full chassis swap trucks now that have more in common with a C5 and newer Vette. Muscle cars are too expensive and what is left is being bought up to flip at stupid prices. The regular folks need to find the "undesirable" stuff and make it cool.

Stuff like the early 80s Malibu wagon I grew up riding in all of a sudden has become a wanted thing for example.

My Bronco has arrived at the dealer for final prep. Really wish I could have gotten it earlier in the summer when interest when the interest rates on new vehicles were points lower. Hard to believe I had a better rate on a used motorcycle 8 years ago by at least 2% than the very best rates I am seeing today...

I am tempted to steal some free money via my credit card cash back, pay my down-payment with it, and then pay it off immediately with the down-payment I have saved when waiting since last August when I put in my reservation to help offset the sales tax and registration costs.

And please don't bother trying to tell me that is a pickup bed because I know better.

Amazes me they sell these things at all. Guess if people don't know better??????????

It is slightly more than 25 years since Ford made the change for the 1/2 ton to be more car like. The 10th generation launched the mini bed revolution aka SuperCrew, killed off the Bronco for far too long, and they also stopped making proper truck engines outside of those they bought from Navistar/IH as the 300-I6, 351W, and 460 died to be replaced by weeny OHC engines that were much better suited to cars than trucks...
