Here's another one I wrote and have yet to add lead guitar on...

Lyrics:

I never had the chance to explain
I never got that peace of mind.

You never took the time to pick my brain,
Never seemed to be just the right time.

And in the space that came between us
There emerged a great divide
I couldn’t hear what you were saying
You couldn’t hear me from the other side, side, side.

I stood at the end of the world, right on the edge
Everyone told me “don’t look down!”

I was the leading man, when I fell off the stage
I guess what comes around goes around.

And in the space that came between us
There emerged a great divide
I couldn’t hear what you were saying
You couldn’t hear me from the other side, side, side.

In the space that came between us
There emerged a great divide
I couldn’t hear what you were saying
You couldn’t hear me from the other side.

Oh, in the space that came between us
There emerged a great divide
You didn’t like what I was saying
But, maybe that was by design.

Nice Milkman. Catchy, good pace, good guitar and vocal. and drum.

Hmmmmm, that’s an interesting question @nomadh . You mean mechanically, or imaginatively?

The short versions are:

Imaginatively, some theme or melody or string of words gets in my melon and won’t let go, and usually, once I start chasing it down it doesn’t run away from me very quickly…. Unless I stop chasing it for almost any period of time.

Mechanically, I usually hash it out using an acoustic to get the correct key and chords. Then I lay a very basic drum track using MT Power Drumkit in Reaper. After that I will add guitars and a rough vocal to see if it works. If it does, I usually quad track distorted guitars like these, then add (my very rudimentary) bass guitar. I will then resume the drum track manually to make it more interesting. After that the great struggle of vocals…. Ugh. I track vocals in my professional grade vocal booth that DEFINITELY is not a closet. I wish my wife would stop putting our clothes in my professional grade vocal booth so I could add $2000 of acoustic treatment in there.

That’s the quick and dirty of it.
