Well,

I happened to stumble here today, haven't visited in ages.

There's been a lot happening in recent years/since my last visits...I don't know if I'll really have the time etc. to be visiting here again much, but I'd sure like to try.

I've bought and sold a lot of gear; played a Plexi for a while and then converted it to 2203 specs. And then bought a JVM again, and now also an Origin 20 and just gigged with that and a 4x10" on Saturday. Also been using a Boss GX-100 much lately...we just finished recording a full album and I did all my guitars basically with just the GX-100.

My current band is called Mosfite, www.mosfite.com for instance, and just about to get the 2nd single out on spotify soon. And a full album to follow.

A big change in guitars as well...I went for vees only. And particularly as '58 style as I can find. Found out I really dig Deans but also built a couple myself (second and third from the left in the pic). I now have, um, seven very similar vees, got rid of all my other guitars. All have Gibson 498T:s in them except one Dean has a JB.

Ayway, here's a few photos of the recent developments:

Welcome back! I was over in your neck of the woods ( well sort of - Norway/Sweden ) for a couple of weeks in June - new job for a company based out of Sarpsborg, NO.

You certainly have a knack for picking cool gear and making it sound good, look forward to hearing some samples.

Hey, Deeaa, I´m glad everything´s good and that you´re making some music.

I like the concept of that Boss GX-100, and would certainly like to grab one someday if circumstances smile at me; they´re on the pricey side of things for this mortal.

Would be great to listen to your album to hear the sounds you got out of it.

Take care, Deeaa the Vee-man :D

Good to see some familiar names here!

Sabas, I've used Boss multifx units guitar for aeons in different roles, from the 80s SE50 thru GT6,8,10 and now GX100. It's the first one that doesn't need a separate IR loader or speaker emulator really, as it allows to load IRs.

The way I use it I have patches that divide in two, with one branch going rather dry into the amp, having whatever needs to be there, and another branch going direct into PA and having amp models and all that are set to sound much like what comes out of the amp.

If I use the JVM it also switches channels in the amp via MIDI at the same time, for the Origin I have to use drive pedals on the amp branch.

There's a single coming out on the 12th, all my guitars are GX100 on it and the lead player uses an aceFXII.

But there's one song already on Spotify etc done with the same setup.

Thanks for the input on how you have it set up, Deeaa. If I ever get one, and as I´m a headphone bedroom player, I´ll only need the modeled sounds directly to the headphones.

I´ll check the song!

Hi deeaa, good to hear you are doing well. I am not here much either. Semi-retirement keeps me busier than when I was working.

I've liked the amp/preamp models in GT series all along, but the speaker modeling has not been good. With the GT8 I got some awesome sounds by using a Radar IR loader after the GT and by applying several layers of EQ. The way I got my sounds was always by adding EQ that's kind of contradictory.

Now the GX allows loading not only one but two of your own IRs. I use basic Celestion IRs and I don't even run I'm stereo for recording. If I need more size I'll add a little amplitube over a DI track but generally I always use mono and never double track and it's quite big and massive enough as is.

But for headphones you can run two slightly different amp models and like a close miked IR for one and a far miked for the other, and combine them. Superb and very realistic sound with the new AIRD modeling.

I always like to boost some frequencies like lows and highs, but also give it a sharp hi-pass and low pass filters, like at 120hz and 4K or even lower. That gives it kick and proper screaming highs, but cuts off the extreme nasty top end. Add a little mid boost for a little raunchiness and that's about it. It's mostly about making the sound sort of aggressive and lively and midrangey enough while keeping the low and top end in check so it doesn't get buzzy or real piercing and nasty. Then just find a drive you like, and don't give it too much gain but rather boost and compress it to make it scream nice. Sometimes you have to add a third parametric Eq to kill some nasty overtone somewhere, but that way I've always gotten great direct sounds from most any gear. The only difference is now it can all be done within one device, no need for external EQs and speaker emulators any more.

Here's a short, well circa 5min video compilation from last Saturday's gig with Mosfite.

I'm playing a Dean V-X, a cheaper bolt-on Dean with a Gibson 498t upgrade and which I painted kinda matte metallic blue. It's a nice axe, despite the bolt-on type. And naturally playing my normal rig. ie the Boss GX-100 which is probably most of what you hear of my guitar here, and a Marshall Origin 20 thru the 4x10" for monitoring.

Sound is a compilation of the video camera and a handheld zoom audio recorder. Sadly we didn't get any sound from the desk, and the zoom recorder was also dropped a few times and masked and whatnot, so all I could salvage was bits and pieces here and there.

That video was great and I really liked what I heard. Will check out more of your stuff thanks! Honestly you play only flying V's, Marshalls and Boss - in my mind makes you one of the coolest guys on here.

Great master class on adjusting sound. It sounds good on the spotify song and in the video you uploaded below.

One of the reasons I like the GX is the IR loading feature, which opens the sound spectrum one can get a lot. Another reason why I like it is the posibility to have electric and acoustic sounds stored on the footswitches, using just one guitar - the electric guitar in my case -.

We´ll see!
