I doubt there's patent infringement since oPik is a pickup replacement while the Lightwave is built into the bridge. From all the engineering stuff I've been a part of with patents, claims get to be pretty specific. I'd imagine it being pretty easy to get around it by having a different mounting system.

As to the pickup itself, I'd imagine it would be worth the cost if you are a big nylon guitar player. The sound of a nylon guitar with the playability of an electric guitar? Awesome!
