Hmm. I already have an SX Hawk with P90s, but with trem. But with the new lineup from Rondo, I have to wonder how different it would sound with a TOM bridge and stop tail. I know the scale length is Fendery, but the mahogany body and hardware suggest maybe more of a Gibby vibe too. Anyone?

KInda a cross between the two tone wise plus your palm doesn't get ripped up by set screws like on a Fender bridge. I LOVE these guitars!

I have an SX Red Strat/Maple Neck/Single Coils, a Mahogany Strat/Rosewood Board/P-90s and a White Liquid/Maple Neck/P-90s that all have Tune-o-matic Bridges but I replaced the Stop Tailpieces with TP-6 Fine Tuning Tailpieces from Geyker...$27. 🙂

Holy cow, that must be right, and I dunno why I didn't make the connection. I have 3 Liquids and 2 of them are P90 based. Of course the Hawk with TOM and stop tail would be similar to the Liquids. Thanks for the wakeup, I love my Liquids!

I almost have its twin! Great guitar, but I blocked the trem.

The 2005 version of me is so hot to get this variation of a strat. And i love that the 2005 ver of SX is back in biz. The 2022 ver of me just cant seem to muster the interest.
Its nice that the core of what got me hot for rondo is still kicking and i love reading about it.

I saw that one the other day and am thinking about jumping on it.
I figure it would sound like a Liquid.
I have a Liquid with 2 P90s and the JM style trem.
A Strat with TOM and 2 P90s and add a TP-6 sounds like just the ticket.

And I just ordered 3 of the Geuker TP-6 tailpieces.
One for my Callisto.
One for the P90 Hawk I’m about to preorder.
And one for ???
I was going to use it on my Liquid. But it has the JM style trem.
Then I was going to use it on my current regular Hawk.
But it has the Fender style trem.
Geez, I don’t know what I was thinking.
Maybe I’ll use it on my Ibanez GAX70, if I keep it.

Honestly, it's a tough call between the P90 Hawk, the 3x P90 Liquid hardtail, and the alder Furrian.
I like all three, but I've been lamenting the lack of lefty P90 Hawks for some time now.

I coincidentally had one of my hawk p-90s out at a jam tonight. I hadnt played one of my 3 for a long time.
This one has Tyson Tone Lab p90's in it, and I again appreciated how nice and raw they sound.
I have a Gibson p90 pair, and a lollar p90 pair in other 2 hawks. Tyson and Gibson are my favorites. Lollars are a bit tamer. All further examples of how its perfectly awesome to put pickups in a guitar where the pups cost as much, or more, than the guitar. I put 7.25 necks, and full trem-blocks in after some routing. I love trem for adding subtle vibes.

I now need to see if I upgraded the pots when I swapped those 3 pupsets in.. That may be a good project for me.

@BatUtilityBelt and ILuvTeles

I’ve only posted this reply twice already. For some reason it seems to keep disappearing. Maybe I offended the ghost of Leo by mentioning his name. So I’ll try again.

Were the bodies of your mahogany Hawks that dark when you received them, or did they darken with time?

I’m kind of hoping that mine comes in dark like yours because I like how it looks.
The Rondo pictures look about as light as my natural finish Alder Hawk.
At any rate, I like the tort PG.
I hate the white PG my alder Hawk came with.

I found mine used, so I can't say if it has darkened over time. But I'm pretty sure it's stained to be that way. I like the darker more too, I think it is less usual that way. Yet I also like the look of the natural, especially with the dark fret board.

my Natural is like tiger-eye with shifting reflective shimmer all over it. Neck was too, but I prefer 7.25 radius.

and, its a one piece body

That’s a gorgeous piece of mahogany.
It definitely reminds me of a tiger’s eye ring I once had.
I’d be thrilled if mine arrived looking like that.
This may be blasphemy, but I think I like the sound of a P90 equipped Strat better than a traditional SSS Strat.

Thanks, Jaymo. Its got the tamer Lollar p90 set in it. Muscular single coil, but not so much comparative growl as the Gibson, or Tyson Tone Lab sets. Good for a punchier clean sound like cleaner Hendrixy range, but while using small amps.

I never “got” all the love that P90s get.
I never “got” all of you P90 fans.
To me, it was all about SSS Strats and humbucker equipped Les Pauls.

Until I got it.
Once I “got” it and overcame my own ignorance, I understood the love for these great pickups. The depth. The clarity. The tone. The raunch. There’s just something so great about P90s.
Consider me enlightened.

I sent pics of the P90 TOM Hawk to a friend of mine who is a hell of a lot better guitarist than I’ll ever be.

He said that it’s more like a Tele with buckers than a Strat.
And I’m ok with that. He may be on to something.
It’s a Strat shape. But the pickup configuration is definitely more like a Tele. With more balls.
Although I guess you could also say it’s like a Jaguar or JM with a hard tail and P90s.

Whatever the case, I expect it will sound a lot like the P90 Liquid.
I hope so, anyway. I love my P90 Liquid.

This morning I spent time getting loud with a P90 based Liquid, and that was too much fun - that guitar punches so far above its weight class it is almost ridiculous. Then I read about Fender laying off hundreds of people (I think because they were sued in the UK over MAP pricing). The confluence of those two things gave me pause.

I was thinking that economy of scale really should make it easier for the biggest guitar makers to compete with low priced instruments without sacrificing a bit of quality. Yet I've had to put more work into my Squiers and one Fender than required from any Agile or SX I have.

So while I sat wondering if I should cut Fender a break for their US based products, I remembered I had not made my DAILY visit to Rondo to consider buying that natural Mahogany SX Hawk dual P90 stop tail preorder. I hit that page to take another look, and thought "great price, but I'll bet he's increased the shipping". So I put it in my cart and plugged in my zip code to see what shipping would be: $20.04. Sigh, I completed the order because there's just no reason to give more expensive brands hundreds more for guitars that are just no better. Looking forward to another P90 SX... if only some of those hollow body P90 guitars there were still around (hint hint, Kurt).

I received TP6 tailpieces. It took a little while to get here from China, but not too long.
I installed one on my SX Callisto last weekend, along with the Grover’s I bought from Rondo (Thanks, Kurt).
My guitar got mad at me and stabbed me in the finger with a string.
That, or it just wanted a blood sacrifice.

What a difference they make.

Now I just wait for the Hawk to come in.

OK, school me. Doesn't the fact that the saddles are metal, with the increased friction for to the bend angle of the strings, make the fine tuners only effective for the unwound strings?

EDIT: Nevemind, I now see that they are intended to be used with roller bridges. I have 2 sets (tuner tailpiece and roller bridge) on order for my fav "studio" LPs.

Well damn! I've been hyping TP-6 Tailpieces on various forums lately. I ended up snagging two more Firefly LPs but with P-90s,
Black and Green. Apologies for their shitty website pics. Went to ScamAzon to pic two up and they usually arrive in 2-3 days.

Guess what? TWO WEEKS now because they sold out!

Apparently "The Tone Horde" has been scoffing them up like crazy. WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!?

Going to put a set of Mini HBs in the Metallic Green one...yeah..."It looks Funky...but...SHEEK!" :)
