Didn't know they called it chunky chords. Use of open strings just makes any chord resonate more. I was learning a Steve Vai Whitesnake song the other day and he used a lot of open stings in his chords, sounds really nice.

Inversion does sound boring compared to "chunky," though if we stayed consistent in this nomenclature we'd end up using terms like 1st chunk, 2nd chunk, and 3rd chunk.
