I´ve been learning to work with graphics and motion design. The goal is to make it my main income source, working for clients NOT in Venezuela. Many individuals and companies look for talent outside of their countries - this is not a new thing, though -, because they can pay less to a person here (by hour or for a complete job), but that pay is good for us. They save some money, and we can have an acceptable income for living here.

So, here´s a small and simple sample I did, inspired on Brad´s @TVvoodoo Well-Hung straps. I just used some of the images he has on FB and Instagram just to shape the idea and show some animation tools; by no means this could be considered a completed job. This was made as if it was a post for Instagram - there are several options to publish there -. and, BTW, Brad, the YouTube link is hidden, only you and AGFers who are seeing this post can access to it, it´s not public, so no worries of wrong info of your business, or advertising you don´t want, is out there in the web.

Honesty first, I´m just beginning with this, and I don´t have any background on graphics design or anything, although I´m learning some of the concepts that need to be applied on this (I´m not sure, but I believe that this is the field of work of some of you... Pesky, and Brad himself, I believe?).

With this, I´m offering myself to do things like this in case some of you need it, or know of somebody who needs it and you can steer that person my way, although I should say that overcomplicated designs are still out of my skills, but my son can give me a hand in case of need. Thanks for anything you can do.

I know that some AGFers here have some sort of a bussines or company - not necessarily music or guitar related -, so if I can be of help in making something for you, you´ll be of help by letting me try to do the job you need.

I´m putting my best effort on this, with the goal of making a living out of this, as I said above. Word of mouth can do miracles. You can help me make my way.

I´m building a portfolio in the meantime.

No worries Sabas, you go, keep practicing. For a raw beginner, this is pretty cool stuff!
What software are you using?

Pesky is/was a non linear editor, but that job typically entails quite a bit of graphics work.
I'm sure he uses the adobe suite products, final cut, and aftereffects, maybe Avid.
This is the industry standard stuff (or was back when I was in the broadcast business) but it's also super pricey.

I started as more a TV camera guy, who ended up writing/producing/directing commercials and long-form videos eventually spending a lot of time with editors and graphics people to make my ideas take flight. So many hours with them in suites I gradually picked up some of it by osmosis.
This enabled me to eventually become a beginner at graphic design.

Then I bought a small community newspaper. I ended up becoming a reporter, editor, photographer, graphic designer and ad salesman
all in one overnight. Did that for ten years and it almost killed me. But I made real good money at it, and developed a ton of skills too.
I still keep graphic design as a small side business, stickers, posters, business cards and outdoor banners. One way to get into the business is build a portfolio, and ask if there are any print businesses that hire out for design work, but you have to have skills. My brother got into graphic design
working at a print shop, taking care of the printers and trim jobs etc... he eventually moved off the print floor to the design
room, and he knew exactly what printers could and couldn't do better than most graphics people he worked with, eventually
hiring himself out to many print shops as a consultant for difficult jobs.

I use coreldraw suite products, for vector work, and bitmap/photo composite work, and video editing. There is a ton of software
out there that is free nowadays, that can do pro quality work.

Graphic design/photography/advertising/copy skills, are extremely useful for any business. In fact,
I couldn't do what I do if I had to hire out that work. I would like to learn to work in 3D but I don't have the time to invest.

But you can learn to use these for your own business, and have something to show clients. Suggest digital stuff before print, as
that can get expensive if you want to change your business cards. Seems to be the way thing are going anyway.

Suggestion you come up with a name for your business, and start working on your own branding... build a facebook page,
instagram, your website. Then business cards, animations, etc, learn as you go. Social media management is the big thing right now.
learn how to use facebook ads, business posts to a facebook account, manage a Google my business page... learn how to use
search ads, digital programmatic ads, how to buy them for clients. THIS is the whole new thing, and where things are happening. These are killing regular newspapers and TV right now, where all the money is moving. The best part is, there are a TON of videos that teach you how, from each platform. The bad part is, it changes so fast, it is really hard to keep up. I was google ads certified for a couple years, a few years ago... I'm sure it has changed so much by now I'd be totally lost.

But, you post regularly to social media, and are learning graphic design already, so you are already ahead of the game

Thanks so much, Brad, for so many good advices and suggestions. I appreciate it. You have an interesting background. I know this is a step by step thing, and it´ll take its time. Like you said, there are many ways to do this, and many people can handle it - young people, I mean. People not still in their 20s can dance around me doing great things -. But the only way to know it is walking the walk.
