You know, for reasons I am not privy to, the double cut was the only Gretsch that Chet specifically expressed a dislike for.
Even tho George's choice of a Chet Atkins model Gretsch caused a huge increase in sales (thus a huge increase in the money Gretsch paid Chet.)
Chet always maintained the double cut was not as good as the single cut version. I do not know why he felt that way.

Interesting.

I seem to remember you mentioning a Chet guitar that was so resonant, it would just hum by itself sitting still.

Maybe it wasnt Chets..but does that ring a bell?

Nope.
Unless you mean the Gibson Chet Atkins Classic Electric?
Those have too much sustain. Pick the low E string, come back tomorrow & it will still be vibrating!

Hm, maybe.

It was definitely a guitar you said had way too much sustain.

Guys of the generation of Chet & Les Paul were always going for more sustain, well the Gibson Chet Atkins CE overdid it! It is a chambered solid body nylon string and almost seems to have acoustic feedback as you go lower in frequency. The A and the low E strings will literally sustain for hours! It is the worst "feature" of the guitar (aside from the weight, of course.)
