So one day this RM Olson guy showed up at old AGF

And he did a run of these Randy Rhoads-alike Les Pauls

I got one, and loved it at first, but immediately fell out of love with it in a couple days.

In hindsight it was actually a great player for what it was. But it didn't feel or sound like the LPs I was used to, and I returned it.

Anyway the picture showed up recently, so here she was!

Why it didn't feel like an LP...

It was too light. The neck carve was too small.

And it has Entwistle pickups which were fine but again just nothing Randy Rhoads sound.

It also had a suuuuuper thin finish and some paint blemishes like craters.

Here's a pic I found of an R.M.Olson Kit which shows the headstock fairly well.

That's all I've got, but as Mickey showed it was an relatively accurate headstock.

I'm thinking it was plain black with no logo on it.

Did that guy personally build them?
Or did he order a batch and then brand and sell them?
And how much did he charge for that model?

RM Olson buys the bodies unfinished as kits from China and then he either sells them as kits or builds them and paints them and sells them as full guitars. He's kind of like Kurt in that he specs the guitars, so they probably aren't exactly like just any kit you find on ebay, but probably not much different.

His website seems defunct though

The links no longer work

They were pretty affordable and played well enough but definitely not to Agile quality of the era

I want to say that one cost $400-450 because he did a dedicated run for ~10 of us, then he never did that model again as far as I know

He switched to some hollow or semihollow designs called Languedoc and Ollandoc or something
