Post storm, my cable date connection was not working.
Comcast phone support effort no go.
Cable tech comes, verify cable data is good (to a point, see next).

- I get data fine with direct Ethernet cable to laptop
- same cable connected to my Asus router , no go (same with an older Netgear router)
My Asus admin page says there is "something wrong with my ISP configuration" or such.

Right now I am using the direct connected laptop and Windows access point settings to pass wifi signal around.

I do not speak DCHP at all, but it may be that I need to dig down into these Comcast-specifics?

Advice?

I'd have your ISP goose your router from their end. Takes a few minutes. You may have to unhook your connections first for maybe 30 sec.

That was the Motorola (modem) the Comcast phone support person put on...!
I actually had my wife make the Comcast call, I am too old for that.

Extra data: the in-person Comcast guy said to hard reset my router, ignoring the fact that router was not happy with what it was getting from the modem. Reset did not change that, of course.

Not as intended.
I am using a crutch via the Windows feature allowing a Windows machine to operate as access point.
That Windows machine is Ethernet cable hard wired to the Comcast modem.

In short the problem is that the signal cable modem puts out is not OK per the router, or routers.

The tech was in house, had my router password, poked around the admin setup at length...
I am trying to locate the comcast-specific settings to be entered manually in the router. This stuff has been working fine until combination storm+comcast massaging.

And an older Netgear router I have behaved to same.

You need to reset the modem as it is likely still hanging on to the DHCP reservation it had and it won't give a new lease to your router. Without getting too technical your PC works because it's more able/flexible in obtaining an address than a hardware router is.

You need to do a hard reset on both devices and bring them both back up online.

Or call Uncle rob - he's a comcast customer too

EDIT: Fixed it by doing replicating the router initial setup wiring, and did a firmware update for good measure, and I am back on with wifi.
Only glitch is I cannot "see" the 5G of the wifi.

EDIT 2: Folks with your own equipment, download your MANUALS, keep them at hand when stuff happens!

Your WiFi doesn’t do 5G.

Yeah, I used "5G" as part of the name of my SSID, so in my mind it is 5G!
