It's so benign, so unlike the temper of us, so soulless. It's like the TeleTubbies or Barny the Dinosaur killed us. It's humiliating and I still can't believe this really happened.

The AGF is more than the forum software we currently live on, we proved that in a HUGE way. Nothing brought us down. The community itself is alive and well, and MOMO is just a spec in the rearview mirror.
It was greed that TRIED to kill us. We're not done.

The Spider and the Fly
I.
"Will you walk into my parlour?" said a spider to a fly;
" 'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy.
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to shew when you are there."
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."
II.
"I'm sure you must be weary, with soaring up so high,
Will you rest upon my little bed?" said the spider to the fly.
"There are pretty curtains drawn around, the sheets are fine and thin;
And if you like to rest awhile, I'll snugly tuck you in."
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly, "for I've often heard it said,
They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed!"
III.
Said the cunning spider to the fly, "Dear friend, what shall I do,
To prove the warm affection I've always felt for you?
I have, within my pantry, good store of all that's nice;
I'm sure you're very welcome—will you please to take a slice?"
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly, "kind sir, that cannot be,"
I've heard what's in your pantry, and I do not wish to see."
IV.
"Sweet creature!" said the spider, "you're witty and you're wise.
How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes!
I have a little looking-glass upon my parlour shelf,
If you'll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself."
"I thank you, gentle sir," she said, "for what you're pleased to say,
And bidding you good morning now, I'll call another day."
V.
The spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew, the silly fly would soon come back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner, sly,
And set his table ready, to dine upon the fly.
Then he went out to his door again, and merrily did sing,
"Come hither, hither, pretty fly, with the pearl and silver wing;
Your robes are green and purple---there's a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead."
VI.
Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little fly,
Hearing his wily, flattering words, came slowly flitting by;
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew,
Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue:—
Thinking only of her crested head, poor foolish thing!—At last
Up jumped the cunning spider, and fiercely held her fast.
VII.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlour—but she ne'er came out again!
—And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne'er give heed:
Unto an evil counsellor, close heart, and ear, and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.[1]

The Asian peoples love "Peekachoo" and "Anime" characters. They DON"T go over very well and for the most part are ridiculed by everyone else as being infantile.toomanycats wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 9:48 am It's so benign, so unlike the temper of us, so soulless. Certainly reflects the "effort" put into their "product" and the "professional" conversion of the old AGF DB to that site.
Farking disaster all the way around for them.
Bet their "Investors" are real happy right now considering an outright revolt ensued, a new site was up in 5 days and the VAST MAJORITY of active participants came here.
To show you how "pro" these schleps are, while they took control of the .COM site, it NEVER even occurred to them (OR Major Tom for that matter a long time ago) to go and buy the .NET and .ORG variants and re-direct them to the .COM site so the other domains couldn't be hijacked and "held for ransom". Bunch of Rookies and Amateurs. ROFLMAO!
When I bought the .NET site and finally got the board up and running I went to our ISP and bought the .ORG domain for $8.99 and pointed it to our .NET.

I bet those little cat, beetle, and rabbit guitars on Rondo are going to be tied into this. Freakin little traitors !

The most amazing thing to me is how EVERYONE HERE seemed to take it personally.
Nobody seemed to take it as "they screwed the forum."
Instead everyone took it as "they tried to screw ME!"
Bottom line = that is how/why we got here!
I'm glad, dunno about you?

AGF was more than just a guitar forum to me. For five years I used it as a place to "think out loud," to write about all kinds of things tangentially related to guitar, including music, culture, bands, genres, personalities of famous musicians, and so on. I posted many long detailed reviews of guitars, amps, and pedals, with pictures, and almost always with sound demos. Those demos are linked to my soundcloud and YouTube accounts. I frequently posted long philosophic soliloquies on any number of subjects, and also wrote about deeply personal events in my life.
Many others here spent equivalent energy contributing the content that made that old forum special. For God's sake, there are posts on the old forum about people's loved one's dying, children fighting cancer, marriages, divorces, children being born . . . the whole rich tapestry of life.
Those MOMO assholes aren't just some people that bought a forum. They're barbarians, cretins, enemies of culture! They burnt down a museum, desecrated a graveyard and memorial, torched a library and school! That's how I feel about them.
So for anyone to say, "It's just a guitar forum," or, "As long as we have the people," those are my objections. It isn't just a guitar forum to me and losing our history and content troubles me tremendously.

TMC, you nailed it! The folks on AGF are like family. We have our disagreements (I'm a very conservative person and some of us are very liberal) but they are generally respectful disagreements, and more times than not, we concentrate on those things that we CAN agree on. AGF is probably the only site that I browsed every day. I'm finding it a little difficult to adjust to this board, but I'll manage; too many good people here to let y'all go!toomanycats wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:50 pmI'm glad we're here now too, but I'll tell you why I took it personally.mickey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:06 pmThe most amazing thing to me is how EVERYONE HERE seemed to take it personally.Tonray's Ghost wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:02 pm
