In my opinion, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ranks among the worst holiday songs yet holds an elevated status among the favorites. Why is this? The song's melody is annoying and no amount of tweaking can be done to make it otherwise. It drives me nuts.
That's all I have to say about that.
On a brighter note: I love Brian Setzer's versions of Christmas classics. Merry Christmas, guys.

I missed out on seeing Brian Setzer's "orchestra" at our local venue several years back, but I would agree that he puts on a fantastic show from the vids. You can tell that all of the members very skilled, but they really enjoy performing too. His playing and the stray cats guys are great of course, but also love the energy and musicianship of the horn section.tlarson58 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 10:41 pm In my opinion, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ranks among the worst holiday songs yet holds an elevated status among the favorites. This one was probably ridiculed when it first came out, and probably still is now. But I adore this Christmas tune.
“There are only two means of refuge from the miseries of life: Music and Cats!” Albert Schweitzer
Just that song? That's the way I feel about all contemporary Christmas music (contemporary in that it was written in the 20th century). But my personal most hated Christmas song is: "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". Every time I hear that song I can't wait for it to be over. That's followed closely by: "Baby it's Cold Outside", which isn't even a Christmas song, and I don't think I'd ever heard it until around the Christmas of 2013. Then, that song was all over the place... there seemed to be about FIFTY NINE different versions of it too, and if you spent more than 15 minutes in any retail establishment at Christmas time, you heard three or four of them before you left the store. I was starting to feel like it was part of some kind of mass-conditioning, Manchurian Candidate type experiment. But now that the Twitter mob has branded it a dog-whistle for sexual assault, you hardly hear it anymore.tlarson58 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 10:41 pm In my opinion, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ranks among the worst holiday songs yet holds an elevated status among the favorites. Weird. I have never heard of Darkness before tonight and now I've seen two vids. The one above (kudos to them for attempting to expand the holiday set list) and this one:toomanycats wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 7:37 pm This one was probably ridiculed when it first came out, and probably still is now. I have just never liked Christmas music or most any of the music in church. It all feels contrived to me. There is only 1 christmas song I can think of and mostly this version when I think of it , that I like
