UPDATE: The lefty Valkyrie that allegedly defied intonation got here this afternoon and only the high E string is flat a couple cents max at the 12th fret (and not it all if you strike it gently). The D string saddle is just about as far forward as it can travel in the bridge but it's fine at the 12th. The other saddles still have room to move forward but they're good where they are. If that high E bothers anyone, I'm sure one of the roller bridges with the adjustable post grub screws that I mentioned in a previous post would provide enough play to take care of that. In fact, sanding a bit of the face of the high E saddle to increase the distance of the travel might also work. However, at least for now, I'm certainly not going to bother.

While I'm not a big fan of this style SG body shape, the finish is striking, and the build quality is superb.

oddly mine showed up with a strange Sung Il roller TOM bridge. Going to try a Wilkinson style roller off my MS-60 Harley Benton.

Was able to get it within a few cents at 5th and 12th fret (sharp actually) with saddle maxed and post centered, so it should be easily fixed. Merry Christmas to me.

Good to hear. Was it just the high E like mine or others as well? I'm going to assume the original buyer did that trying to make it work and never bothered swapping back in the original although Kurt does sell roller bridges so maybe he tried on one of them?

Yes, I am kind of surprised how easy it was to fix for ~$425 off...

I actually had the saddles all reversed because the Chinese 24" scale neck I bought was made wrong and the scale length was off the other direction. I just flipped the bridge and everything was almost perfect once I moved the E and E correctly.

I did that when I first started playing after barely practicing or anything the first couple years I owned a lefty that I had bought on a whim in 2008. I gave it a good month trying to learn right handed after I bought my SX LTD2 strat while I was collecting unemployment waiting to start using my GI Bill. Ended up switching back to lefty for good after taking a few in person lessons and talking with the teacher a good bit.

I've told this here before but here it goes again:
I started trying to learn to play guitar when I was 9 or 10 years old.
Worked my little butt off but was getting nowhere.
After several months, my older brother (who plays righty) suggested we flip the strings and I should try it lefty.
We did, and I made more progress in a week than I had made in the previous months!
I've never looked back! That was in 1959.
So, be careful if you buy a lefty just to try because you might become a convert! :D

I never tried to play right-handed. As a kid, when I first picked up a guitar, right-handed felt so incredibly uncomfortable I never even tried. When I later got serious about learning, my first guitar was an early 70s SG and the reason for that was upper fret access knowing I would be flipping the strings...

It never felt uncomfortable, but my picking (right) hand seems to be what is holding back my skill progress the most.

My question, do you guys try to intonate while standing up playing? I have heard that's how you do it and not with the guitar flat on a workbench. I've always done it standing up, i know it makes a difference. I have a Peterson tuning app on my tablet which i think is years better than using a snark or whatever, not sure how accurate a tuner pedal is.

I do it sitting down but the guitar is in the same position as if I were standing up

I tend to intonate a guitar on the bench. I just don't believe in there being more than a negligible difference.

I have found standing up with the guitar on with a strap does give you a different reading, due to gravity. May be only a few cents. Next time i set one up i will see how different my readings are. It's easier to do it on the bench. It's easier to loosen the string , adjust, retune, then measure.

One of those things you find on the web then take it for gospel. Same with setting heights on humbuckers, so many mm or so many 32nd's. I now use coins as my starting point and usually don't go to far from my initial setting.

A quarter is the only unit of measurement I need anymore for setups: one quarter balanced on the 12/13th frets for string height, two quarters on the pickup for pickup height...:)

I only tune with the guitar in playing position, then adjust saddles and check again in playing position.

One nice thing about the Wilkinson style roller bridge is that you can move the whole thing so in my case every string was very close to the same amount sharp at the 5th or 4th fret amd 12th fret so I just moved the whole thing back the same amount on both sides and it brought everything into acceptable intonation. I didn't even need to mess with the saddles since they can be a challenge to move just a little.

I really wanted to hate the Valk because I could sell it, but dangit if I don't love playing it and the offset body look actually works in person.

The Wilkinson roller bridge actually works a lot better on the Valk and the roller TOM works fine on the HB Mustang with the JM vibrato so it is a win-win.

I rearranged the office to give myself 2 extra spots to put guitars on the wall so I can have 27 surrounding me guilting me into practicing instead of doing other time wasting activities.

Still haven't taken any pics of it...NGD thread pending.

Really good deal on these single cuts from GC. Reminiscent of PRS SC or ESP ltd ec-256, but for a fraction of the price.
3 finishes are going for $199, one for $249.
You can probably get them price matched at MF and get 8% back in MF points.

This seems so crazy to me as it's so arbitrary as t both hands are working and I'd think it wouldn't matter. But I keep hearing this from a few people.. Maybe because I've always been a bit ambidextrous. I was able to read backwards as well as forwards till 3rd grade and could write either hand till 2nd grade. I picked to be right handed. I wonder if I would have actually got good if I learned lefty. As of now I still shoot either handed although I'm definitely left eye dominant.
My kid is full lefty but as a drummer he learned right handed because he had to share a kit in jazz band where he was winning awards.
Soooo I guess it depends? :)

I am left eye dominant, left ear dominant (learned that in a music class in college), and both parents are lefties.

My kindergarten teacher made me a righty for writing because I was writing equally well with both hands switching halfway across the page...

I eat left handed though.

My mom bought me a glove for my left hand in tee ball so I learned to throw righty, but always batted lefty.

I can golf both ways, but I hit more accurately righty since that was how I learned first, I putt left handed.

I am a right hand shot in hockey (top/left hand is dominant one).

That is why I decided to get a left handed guitar to try to learn. I do have good fine motor skills with my right hand from writing all those years so fretting was easier, but my left hand is what I do most everything else so it made more sense that it should pick up the time sensitive picking/strumming better.

It's almost a Jimi Hendrix model but the strings are on the wrong way!
