Life has gotten complicated. I am 63 now, working more than I should be, still trying to get back to normal from hurricane Ida, could not play all that I had, and my wife is having health issues. So I decided to unload about 10 guitars and a few amps. Don’t regret it and still have a few nice ones which ended up being all PRS. Might pick up another one day. Life is still good, just different. Have a couple of project guitars I will probably pass on to someone when time allows.

That's a pretty nice collection by any measure. If I had to steal only one i'd grab the Tremonti SC.

I like the direction your collection has gone. PRS is absolutely my favorite of the big brands. I like Fender, Gretsch, don't hate Gibson, but PRS is the only on where damn near everything they make is a guitar I'd gladly rock.

Life is still good. My intentions were not imply I have it rough, I know my life it pretty good compared to others I know. Its just life throws you changes, and you change with it, or it will consume you. So I made a few changes.

I was not much of a PRS fan boy years ago, but they definitely grew on me. And used they are attainable for cheapskates like me. That is after you sell 10 or so of your others. The American made two needed zero work. Believe one day they might get a pickup change. The Korean made Tremonti benefited from fret leveling, nut work and a good set up. It now plays as well as the American guitars. Maybe one of their single coil pickup guitars down the road may be in my future when life levels out a bit.

Hey you kept the ones that you bonded with right Sam? I feel much better since I have reduced my inventory of sticks and strings. I still have a few more to go. but will eventually get there. I am sorry to hear your wife is still having health issues. I agree with you about PRS. Never heard of them till a few years ago (I know I lived under a rock I guess) and only have one but it is a keeper.

I am 63 as well and have trimmed down my collection that topped out somewhere north of 60 guitars at one point. I have about 15 or so now and still could get rid of a few. I only use about 3 of the electrics and I play the acoustic more than anything else.

I have had several PRS electrics over the years but currently I have only a PRS acoustic. They do make good stuff.

Yes I only kept the ones I truly liked. Think I need a single coil model though, but will see how that goes. Need to unload another amp and get something that sounds great at very low volume. The wife can’t take the volume anymore. My AC 15 is not that kind of amp. Would go the headphone route, but have not found anything in my rather frugal price range that sounds like an amp. Kemper or Fractal might, but way out of my tight azz budget.

If you don't already have an interface, I'm having a great time with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 I got a few days ago and a Neural DSP plug in. Which I think neural still has all of their stuff at like 50% off until the 30th I think, and the Scarlett seems like more of a value everything I get in front of my PC.

Anyway, glad to hear you're doing well, hope the missus gets back to 100% soon too though!

Sam - Have you tried a Quilter Superblock UK? No tubes but it does capture some of the Vox essence and is small and can be played at low volumes.


And since you like PRS - Have you tried a SE Paul's guitar? Has coil split to give you that tone but with the ability to flip a switch and get back to humbucker mode.

I had a bunch of strats and teles wanting single coil sounds but just couldn't bond with any so when I got my first PRS (Santana) I was quite smitten by the neck (Fat and wide) which is really not that fat or that wide but somehow quite comfortable anyway. So the coil split on The Paul was a no brainer. I have a difficult time tolerating loud amps these days so the Quilter is pretty good at dialing in and down a good sound. Buying used may be the way to go.
