Venezuela´s strange/unusual guitar findings thread
@andrewsrea I'm not doing anything anyone can't do. Mostly just looking at Reverb and eBay completed sales. It's just I tend to remember items I've come across and researched before making it easier the next time I come across said item (or a variant of it). Of course maybe you'd say the same about pickup winding and electronics.
I've wondering (since @andrewsrea's post) how you became such an expert in guitar prices in Venezuela?????golem wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:08 am @andrewsrea I'm not doing anything anyone can't do. @mickey I'm definitely not. The only international buying I'm doing is in the Philippines. I think the only weird niche I'm familiar with is the Filipino guitar market. I often have to resist the urge to take up more space at my in-laws house.

IBANEZ AR420 (New, not used)
This is unusual in the sense that there were never too many examples of the AR series here in stores.
Considering that it goes for $650 new (Sweetwater), the local price here of $750 including a hard case seems reasonable to me, considering it is new.

UPDATE: Seller lowered asking price to $220. Personally, I´d get it (I won´t, of course); I think that he will be willing to take $200 after some negotiation.sabasgr68 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:09 pm UPDATE: Seller lowered asking price to $220. IBANEZ ARC300
Another one.
Found this today - well, it has been showing from time to time -. At first the seller was asking no less than $300. Now he published again, and selling price is $250. Is it reasonable for this guitar? Appears to be in good condition, and includes the hard case.
Reverb prices between $300 and $500 doing a quick search. (Just in case, I´m not buying this or any guitar )
PICS! (low quality)

Yes! There are some Agiles too. Not many, though.
Guy is asking $600. He´s been years trying to sell it, always a little bit overpriced.

UPDATE!
This guitar dissapeared sometime last year; appeared again a couple of days ago. Same guy, now asking $500 for this Agile AL3100, almost new. He dropped $100 of the price he was asking before. Personally, I don´t think he´ll be selling it at that price still.

SQUIER ESPRIT 2004 - $280
(Squier, not Fender)
This beautiful Esprit showed up yesterday. Considerably cheaper than those I´ve seen in Reverb. This I like it a lot, although I like the tobaccoish finish better. Looks in good condition.

EPIPHONE LES PAUL STANDARD PLUS TOP PRO - $380 OBNO
This model showed up. It´s a 2011 year production guitar, made in Qingdao. Guess it´s not a bad price, considering it has Probuckers in it.

ProBuckers sound great, but it's really not something that adds to the price. They're still "stock" Epiphone pickups. $380 is an 'ok' price... I think the Epi LP Standard cost about $400 or so, back in 2011. I'd try to haggle him down to $325.

He wanted $400 at first. But maybe if he sees all the bills in front of him, he´d take the $325 offer. It´s easier to make it to the next month with those bills in the hand than with the guitar hanging in his wall...

Yeah, I don't imagine there's a lot of back-and-forth haggling around there... Money in hand sets the price.sabasgr68 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:05 amHe wanted $400 at first. Bottom line: I wouldn't pay that sort of change for any solid body guitar irrespective of how many cases and/or straps they come with.
Unless maybe the case has four wheels, 12 cylinders and says Ferrari on it.

Yes... Actually, two grand will get me a guitar and several other things, and will still have some change for donuts and other sweet treats!
I know there´s everything for everyone, but not sure if there will be someone here in Venezuela willing to pay that money. Those who have no problem with money get their things usually on their own, the rest of us mortals won´t spend 2K on a guitar, no matter what name it says on.

There's no one in America that would be willing to pay $2k for that guitar. I can't make out much detail in that photo, but that looks like an MiM Tele in an upscale case to me. Even if it's an American Standard (I don't think it's a "Professional") it's still way over-priced.sabasgr68 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 9:36 amYes... I'm with @mickey on this one... I love Teles to the moon and back, but there has never been a moment where I could justify doling out more than say, $600 for one. Not when there's Squier CVs around... Or I could build one for about $500 and have an equivalent (or better) guitar, made to my own specs. These are very simple machines... Does an S-1 switch make a "Professional" Tele cost $1,600?? Because I don't really see much difference between a Player, Performer, and a Professional, other than wiring, finish options, and a hard case... and even the Players are overpriced now. Actually, they were over-priced when they cost $700 IMO. You can get a really nice semi-hollow for around that price (or less), and there's a lot more work and craftsmanship that goes into that.

I said I wasn´t sure if he wil sell it here - don´t think he will, actually -, but you know, sometimes "new rich" people - those are growing steadily here becuase you all should know why, won´t get into that territory here - might want to have an attitude showing off his new original american guitar to his buddies. $2K is just change for them...

Ok, if it says "Made in USA", then it's either an "American Special" or an "American Standard". Since 2018, Fender has been unable to put "Made in USA" on their guitars due to the fact that necks and bodies for American Fenders are often made in their Mexican factory. Likewise, parts for Mexican Fenders are sometimes made in their US plant. Now they just say: "Corona, CA" (dropping the "made in" part).sabasgr68 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 9:45 am

What made me think it was Mexican was the color. That Midnight Blue was a standard color on MIMs from the '90s into the oughts. But now that I think of it, Mexican Standards only had Rosewood fretboards back then.

Considering that it goes for $650 new (Sweetwater), the local price here of $750 including a hard case seems reasonable to me, considering it is new.
