You may or may not remember a year or so ago when everyone was getting stimulus checks from the Government?

Well, I got exactly $745 deposited directly to my bank account. No more. No less. Exactly $745.

Never did figure out why. But that is what happened.

Today I got a $1400 stimulus check in the mail.

Nobody I know has received one recently.

It was dated this month, so it hasn't been lost in the mail.

Just sorta scratching my head in wonderment.

It's a test. Don't spend it yet. Only joking. There was some news headlines about checks being sent out but I thought it was for unemployment taxes or such.

The first round they deposited exactly $745 into my bank account.
Then nothing until yesterday.

Could it be that maybe you were supposed to get money from one of the previous go rounds, and they just figured out they missed you?

I know that the IRS issued refunds on taxes incorrectly collected on unemployment benefits starting this month - but I don't think that applies here.

I pay the IRS quarterly, don't get refunds.
Been retired for ages so no unemployment benefits.

Check was issued 11/05 , so it "might" have been issued late. After all, everyone got $1400 back in the spring, right?

Last march my tax guy told me, regarding non-received stimulus round, that the IRS became swamped trying to process prior years tax filings due to covid. And the pile up meant many folks became uncurrent on prior tax filings processed, and so may not qualify to get sent a round 2, or 3. My guy worked the missed payment into a deduction. But if a miss wasnt worked into a deduction, perhaps its still on the gubments radar to eventually make whole as they finally catch up to the backlog of tax filings.

I think you are on to something! My tax guy failed to work it into a deduction. Based on my 2019 return I didn't qualify, but based on my 2020 I did qualify.
So I'm guessing the IRS backlog is the answer. Sorta tells you how fast the IRS processes stuff, doesn't it?

Not everyone got a stimulus check because my wife and I did not get one. I think we are in the fortunate group paying for the stimulus versus receiving it.
