The ones I remember seeing were stained to match the back, so it wasn't as noticeable. Maybe my memory is faulty, but I don't remember the necks on 2000s looking that light.
Finally escaping the People's Republic of Kalifornia!
They came in both Maple and Mahogany neck versions -IIRC he switched over to Maple sometime during the great AL2K blowout, but then went back for a bit. I had one of the honeyburts 2Ks from the blowout era and it had a maple neck, and it was much brighter/lighter looking as compared to the body. In either case, i've had LP's with both Maple and Mahogany necks from Agile and Gibson, and other than looks I can't tell the difference.
Scott, if memory serves, the 2xxx's all had maple necks while the 3xxx's all had mahoggany (sic) necks.
TJ or someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong!

Yup. Though you can find a piece that breaks the rule every so often.

They came both ways. I have owned 3 or 4 and all but one were mahogany. I think maple came sometime around 2013 or so, but as always with Kurt the exception is the rule:
Random googling of old 2k pages seems to mostly bring up mahog versions like this
