That is more drama than I have experienced in all my band years combined. I walked away from the playing in a band in 2017. I recently agreed to play with a group that has several records over the years. They have always been a three piece but when they record they record multiple guitar tracks. They finally decided they wanted to have that guitar in the band when they played their songs live and they asked me to fill the bill. I played with the frontman/guitarist/songwriter back in the 90's for a few years and he and I had been doing a few acoustic shows since I had quit the band scene. The acoustic thing is all I wanted to do and it was a side project for him that he enjoyed. We had even opened a show for his band and that night I also sat in with them on a few. I guess I was the logical choice or maybe the only guy available who knows. I would not have agree to play with anyone else. I don't have to play except when it is a show where they are showcasing the original stuff almost exclusively and the other shows I have the option. That is perfect for me. I was sure rusty playing the Les Paul but a few practices and I was back in the swing of things.
The new band sounds awesome, you traded up, good luck.

Great music and a drama! I was just at a concert tonight and your black magic woman was so much better. Amazing tone. Caught a couple goosebumps.
The story line is very interesting. I was caught in a similar sitch. I have to say though, I think legally you may have been in the wrong. Even though morally justified. The band that switched the time is the one that should loose to the unchanged commitment. Especially if they were the much more longtime band.
When my new band that was more committed had a great gig I had to stick with my old frumpy band because they called the time first. Even though the new band did bump me and go on to much better things.
So I guess what I'm saying is you were in the wrong even though you did the right thing that needed to be done.
The universe is more right with you and that new singer. You did give plenty of warning signs.

I would say that perhaps you made the decision you did for a reason -- kind of like making a girl break up with you because you don't want to break up with her to go out with someone else. Just a dimestore psychologist supposition...

I've got all kinds of old ladies chasing me around . . . and I literally mean old ladies.
What can you expect? Who else listens to guitar music?
But old ladies rock. trust me, I know.
