Finally, something Jersey can be proud of, we didn’t descend into looting and fires!
We had protest marches, but that was all.
Well, Los Angeles is under curfew...

I just got a phone call with a recorded message telling me the city of Jacksonville has a mandatory curfew starting at 8 pm tonight. I don't live in JAX and I have no reason to go out anyway but this is really a crazy time.

With respect, I disagree with your opinion on the matter. There are generations of people that have not been trained to deescalate situations, not just police. Some people just believe that they don't have to answer for illegal activity, and when the police need to step in, they refuse to go peacefully. Then when force needs to be utilized, all of the blame is put on the police. This has been my perception of events, and I'm not saying that what occurred in Minnesota was right, because it wasn't.
You are both correct, poor selection training and oversight of the police in certain locales, and a community trained to be uncivil, dishonest and disrespectful, especially towards police. It is the same people who have encouraged both and who benefit greatly from the division, poverty and violence that results.BrianSkeezer wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 9:19 pmWith respect, I disagree with your opinion on the matter. I hear parts of LA now have a curfew of 1pm. Remember when your parents tell you nothing good happens after 1pm. Anything after lunch is just a no no.

I lived near LA (Riverside) during the riots and vividly remember the Korean Rooftop Squad, a bunch of Korean men in the community that banded together to protect the Korean storekeepers' stores. Not a one was looted although there is more tension between Koreans and Blacks than there are between White and Black.
Think I've figured it out! Why everyone out west is so upset.
Saw a video on TV a while ago where people had spray painted "BLM" on buildings..
During the time I lived out west, everyone I met was pissed at the Bureau of Land Management about something.
Not the same somethings, but everyone was pissed at the BLM.
So, if they've started protesting the BLM, I would expect everyone to join in!

That's not exactly true nationwide. My brother went through the Academy to be a city cop and they discussed deescalation at length. I just asked my father, the retired Alabama DA Investigator and he allowed that he must have gone to at least a class on that subject every year for his entire career. In fact, I remember my father being given so much recurring education during his career that I wondered how that he ever had time to do his job. I would guess that today's cop has more training and education than ever in history. Many street cops have 4 year degrees in Law Enforcement.

Well... not about your folks but, generally, where did all this education go, and how good was it?Raindog wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 5:22 pmThat's not exactly true nationwide. Perhaps there is something else at play, that was not part of cop class work?
The other farm cats didn’t super love him but the chickens thought he was alright so he became a chicken.
When something has depressed and upset me to the point where I'm really not in the mood to buy another guitar, you know it's beyond bad...
