I hate being taken for a ride. When I had my business in the early 2000's, I hired people to do most things because my schedule was always full. There was one issue where I had a plumber "take care of" a slow kitchen drain. My wife said he spent a total of 2 hours there, and he replaced a 13 foot section of PVC pipe fully accessible (exposed in the unfinished basement ceiling). He charged me over $600. Most expensive PVC on the planet, and PVC work is as easy as plumbing ever gets.

Oh yes, that too was one of the reasons I started learning and doing all the things I could. Some times you are charged a fair amount, but some other it is plain ridiculous.BatUtilityBelt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:26 pm I hate being taken for a ride. Most simple plumbing is way overpriced. But, the not-so-simple stuff......
I hire a lot of stuff out now because I just don't have time. But, as my wife says, "he's handy enough that it doesn't make sense to hire someone, but not so handy that it goes smoothly."
I lost a day and a half to installing a new kitchen vent fan.
(shudders.....)

Planned obsolescence is the pits. I have read that there's a 100 year-old light bulb still burning in the Manhattan undergrounds.

Now, is there anything else that you could DIY, so you can free more guitar money?
