It could be done very cheap or it could cost you $20,000+. If you can line up a bunch of AGF’ers to give you a place to sleep and buy you a few local meals, and you travel by bus, train, or borrowed car, not expensive at all. If you want to fly and stay in nice hotels, it would get expensive fast.

Well, you should come to Wisconsin during State Fair where there are like 100 food vendors, from cheese curds to fried food on a stick to sweets. You can't experience the United States without a heart attack! Some people love cream puffs while others think they're over-rated. With all that food, you'll have to find one of the many beers to wash it down while listening to cover bands like mine play the same songs on 10+ stages. ;)

That's true. Pizza is one of those things where it's not that it's impossible to get good pizza elsewhere, it's just...less likely, shall we say. BTW I do not hate Chicago-style pizza but I do not regard it as pizza either. It's a perfectly good casserole-ish kind of thing, but it is not pizza.

While you are in WI you can take a loop up through the northern part of the state where I live. Wisconsin is really kind of a melting pot of all different cultures - German, Scandinavian, Polish, etc. We also have a significant Southeast asian community as well, so you can literally find a Brat Fry and a Thai/Lao lunch counter in earshot of each other. Some of my favorite foods are those that are harvested from the wild game we have and/or grown on some of the many farms in the area. One thing you see a lot of growing around here is Ginseng...our climate is somewhat similar to that of Vietamn in the lower mountains so it actually grows very well around here.

My family is a mix of German and Swedish descent, but on the Swedish side I still have an aunt who makes Lefse in mass quantities, which is a potato based flabread of sorts. We also used to eat Lutefisk at Chrismas...think fish jello. More of a tradition than a delicacy ;-)

LOL Yes, instant 40 extra pounds in my body, and then a heart attack! Yeah, we once watched a food show on one of those State Fair and the food there was sick. I remember I told you about it. I´d certainly not miss it, and listening to your band while at it would be an extra plus of great value! :)

That sounds great, having that variety of food places together so close that you can have a little of all. That´s an interesting fact about the Vietnam climate similarity.

I´ve have had to look out for most of the plates you´ve mentioned - I mean everybody here -, and that Lefse looks very good, I like that kind of bread. Lutefisk looks good too... Christmas would be a good time for visiting :)

Depending on how you do things and when you time it, I'd say you could do 10 states (depending on which states) for ~$600/state. Say $1000/state to be more comfortable or "extra" and that's still not the worst price tag I've ever thought of, so $6k to $10k. Plus you get the best bang:buck from good memories and fun experiences.

In this virtual food trip everything is possible :). I´ve already visited all of you, and have eaten all those plates! In my real world, it is very far away; regardless, I really enjoyed all the culinary suggestions :)

Hahaha Well, you know, maybe I´m missing something, but I´ve never liked offal that much. I do like and eat cow liver, we all like it here at home, but other than that, I´m not that much of a lover. But I know many people that love it :)

Since we didn´t ate that kind of stuff at home when we were kids I guess I didn´t grow up to it. It´s all a matter of customs... :)

My late FIL loved it, and always had a dish of that when we visited him - I don´t know where he got the idea that I liked it; I´d eat it all for respect to him, though... :) ). My wife she likes it more, snce, as I said, she grew up with it.

Now you're talking some regional stuff! My mom's family is from northern Kentucky, so I grew up with goetta, which is kind of a cousin to scrapple and which I make for myself once a year or so.

Well my plan would look like this.
Fly into Tucson and visit @honyock for a few and let him show you some Southwest and then I'll come pick you up and bring you just a bit east and a little north and I'll cook a few meals while you get comfy in a 24 foot travel trailor. Then you borrow the 3/4 ton diesel truck and said travel trailor (I trust you that much and we have that kind of insurance) and you can head out and visit anyone else. Heck I'll send you with a guitar and amp on loan (though if your throwing cash you should order your AD3200 or Ibby and have it delivered to my house). I would start the trip with a fresh oil change and new tires on the trailor. Setup some reservations at camp grounds/resorts. They aren't as cheap as you might hope and you really should have reservations. End up back here and I'll take you to the airport.
Now all you have to do is plot your drive and stops.
