If it's this we're going to need pics for confirmation, preferably with you wearing it.

Hint no. 4: Very well-known American brand... BUT made in West Germany (extra clue right here), actually made around 1957.

Yeah, hard to guess, but there were some good clues, I thought.
Not mine pictured, but same pristine shape
This is my second Retina, the other is an earlier IIa which was another surprise opportunity estate sale buy.
They were a premium product, great lenses.
Fit and finish are superb, and they usually age well on account of the closure door.
Nothing like the bulk of Kodak production, which was mostly cheaply made to consume film.
Not bad for the price of two packs of stings or so!

This is a 35mm camera.
Now almost gone from CVS/Walgreens, but you can buy135 all day long mail order, Kodak, Ilford, etc.
Actually, Dr. Nagel who was the owner of the camera company Kodak bought designed the original 35mm film cassette we still use today, and convinced Kodak to produce it. Retinas were the first cameras to use them.
Prior to that, everybody was making their proprietary cassette design, you had to reload at home.
