no profanity rule

I understand why the no cussing rules are now here. I have rarely used those words in here if at all. Since the forum is slowing and I can't use certain words I'll rarely come in. As for using langue my mother approves , she has a potty mouth and uses profanity with abandon.

I would certainly hope that this is a joke. If not, who came up with this rule, and why? This ain't the third grade, or some church. This forum seems to be dying a slow death anyways. May as well speed it up some. I will be popping in occasionally, but will be spending more and more time on other forums.

In fairness to the site owners/admins - we (the forum users in general) asked for this rule to be clarified. And even from the very beginning there was a statement "strongly discouraging" profanity on the main page. I a personally in favor of the site admins setting the record straight on the subject - whether I disagree with it or not at least we know the score. Transparency is a good thing - and each individual can make their own choices of course based on the rule. But overall, I am more encouraged to be here and know the score rather than arbitrary post removal, which is what was happening before.

Cussing should be allowed. Sometimes it's really hard to make a point with cussing.

I'm not a fan in the least of being treated like this is an elementary school forum, but my wrist hasn't been slapped too hard for talking like I always do so it's not really a huge issue. Even sentences can be over seasoned, but let me just chew on my occasionally over-seasoned sentences and deal with the taste.
I like how this is an issue on an internet forum related to guitars in the 2021 of our lord/science/philosophy, it's pretty farking goofy if you think about it.

Regarding the low level of activity I know a few members (like RLP) left due to the "less secure/less private" nature of the new board. Not to mention there hasn't really been anything going on in the gear or music world for the last year.

How about we make a list of exactly what is was that made the old AGF great, and use that as a starting point to draw some conclusions about what it is that's missing here, and perhaps contributing to its decline.

There was definitely an unrestricted, wanton abandon in the use of expressive language that contributed to the unique appeal of the old forum. It got pretty crazy sometimes, which was a good thing in my opinion. It was exciting and unpredictable. In a word, it felt "free."

My two biggest complaints are the censorship/profanity policy and the ongoing issues with simply staying logged in.

The problem with activity level is two fold. The forum is no longer closely tied to Rondo and the Agile brand which brought in most of the members who found us by googling for info on Agile. And, Rondo and Agile are no longer the great value proposition or popular brands they used to be. Why come to “a” guitar forum when there are so many others? What’s the draw and selling point for this place other than nostalgia for those of us who have been around a long time?

I hate to say it, but I think we survived MOMO only to slowly die on our own.

This is a pretty silly thing to get up in arms about IMO, most forums don’t allow cursing (TGP is a HUGE community and has even more stringent rules than we have here). I curse plenty in regular every day life but I really don’t feel the need to do it in writing on a forum and I don’t really understand anyone who feels they need that to the extent that they would leave an online community over it.

To each their own though of course, but I’m pretty surprised to see how many people here seem to be severely disturbed by the prospect of avoiding cursing when posting.

Nothing wrong with pro-fanny-tea in adult settings, IMO.. Elvis lived it, but didnt use it in Church.
I think one can easily use a suggestive substitute phrase that implies the word you want to use, or using a misspelled version perhaps leaving out most letters, etc. Seems acceptable here. I dont really know. I dont need to spell out every descriptive term, I tend to suggest one whenever it seems aptly descriptive, and no-one seems to mind.

Yeah maybe so but we are writing here and not talking, all it takes to avoid “slipping up” is noticing you wrote it before you hit submit and editing your post. Most people read what they wrote before hitting submit anyway.

Yeah maybe so but we are writing here and not talking, all it takes to avoid “slipping up” is noticing you wrote it before you hit submit and editing your post. Most people read what they wrote before hitting submit anyway.

No one is getting "punished". There are ground rules which are expected to be respectful to others and oneself. That's all. Posts may be EDITED by myself or the Admins and NOTING THAT FACT in the post as I have done today.

I'd just like to remind everyone that "pining for the fjords" such as the way the old AGF was run is in the past is pointless. I'm not being a hard arse just asking people to be civil with their posting content.

There ARE better ways to express oneself even if you're whizzed off in the heat of the moment.
