Plays great, nice top, id say its a keeper.
You couldn't find a guitar anywhere with the specs you got for the price.
Neck profile is never a deal breaker for me

I contacted them. After a bit of back and forth, they offered to refund me $30. Not exactly what we, as American consumers, are used to. But given that shipping is over half the cost of the guitar, it's not an unreasonable offer. And there is nothing really wrong with it besides the spec on the neck.

I asked them to just apply the refund toward a new guitar, this time with the correct neck taper. Going with a different color - rootbeer.
They didn't do a perfect job matching my requested color last time, but I'm happy with the results.

Here are the requested vs actual

Rootbeer looks great on that body. If they get close to that, it's awesome.

The dye job on the PRS is a multi-step, hand-dye process involving at least two different dyes, and sanding back in between. That's a labor intensive (costly) process. It looks like IYV just sprayed that burst with one shade of blue. It still looks good though.

I really like that one... But then I tend to favor warmer colors on guitars. They might be able to get closer to that.

That was one of my first questions when talking to the FB forum mod. He claims he and the other mods tried it, but the factory would only send singles or containers...

I gave some thought to starting a line of these. But it seems like too big of a headache, at least for the risk/reward that could be captured here. It doesn't help that Amazon is selling a similar IYV guitar for $172 (that is, if you're fast enough to get them. They sell out in hours)

I really like the guitar for me I would add it to the herd but it just depends how much the difference of the neck profile bothers you. This is one of those times you have to decide if you can be happy with it for the long haul. Not trying to be a know it all or suggest you don't know this already but for me this is what I would consider.
A. will it cause you to be a little pissed every time you play it because the neck is not what you ordered
B. is it off bad enough to be a distraction while playing or is it unplayable for you
C. You can live with the neck profile, be happy with the guitar as is and glad you spent the $330 for a custom guitar

It is close enough to being my ideal guitar, that I'll keep it. I have a couple of other guitars with a similar profile. It's not my favorite, but not a deal breaker.
Hopefully the second guitar will come back as nice as this one, but with a chunkier neck.

Congrats again @mighty_duck that's good news because it is beautiful and if it plays anything like the ones I have that were made by Inyen Vina it's like butter. On the IYV's I've had I had to do a bit of setup basically just height adjustments and one had fret sprout which you can encounter on any guitar. Enjoy that gorgeous guitar and I bet it's a great feeling to own a one of a kind guitar you had custom built to your specs.

Second Custom PRS clone is ready to ship. Got some pics, it's looking pretty darn good. The blue one actually looked much better in person than the shots they sent me before shipping, so there is room for it being even better :)

Looks gorgeous! They only work with dots for the frets, or is it that you actually asked for dots? Just curious! :)

I prefer the simplicity of dots for most guitars (except on LP's). If I order a third one, I may do something different with the inlays. Any suggestions?
They can do anything. Some examples from their other guitars

I think I like this one better, block or trapezoids.

Regardless of your final choice, it should look great.

Do you have an ETA already?

I'll have to think about those inlays :)

No ETA yet, it's moving in the UPS system, still in Ho Chi Min city, clearing export.
Last one took 4 days. There's an outside chance it'll be here on Friday, but more probably next Monday.

Got any mad scientist ideas for your build?

I think initially that I'll stick to a left-hand version of something they already make. I didn't look too hard yet but it's tough trying to find a site where a list of all there models are consolidated. IIRC, they made a Brian May Red Special copy. I wouldn't mind one of those as I've had a set of Burns Trisonics sitting around for a number of years. I was planning on having a custom pickguard for a Liquid or Jazzmaster copy cut but this would be infinitely easier plus I like the style of that guitar...

They both look great to me!

You're having as good as if not better luck custom ordering from them as I have had from Kiesel. I've ordered 2 customs from Kiesel, and I swear I will NEVER order one again. Took them forever to build it, I paid TONS extra for a color match and highly figured tops, got neither either time. My last one I paid $600 extra for a highly figured quilt plus $400 extra to do a photo matched color and they got both wrong. That was going to be my one and only MAJOR custom guitar purchase and they ruined it for me. At least they refunded me the $600 for the top.

Congrats @mighty_duck, I think it’s gorgeous!

And for me, I’d take that thin neck!

Thanks for the FB link, I’ll have to check em out. You do a search for them and it seems a million other results come up first!
