One of the problems of having a lot of instruments is some don't get played much. I played my WPB 5 string for the first time in probably a couple of years and realized why I still have it and its brother (a 4 string)! This was my 3rd string through bass, but at $189 (in 2009) I consider it one of my best value basses.
I took it to church yesterday, and it just did what I needed it to do! This is funny to me because, although my G&L L2000 and L2500 are trying to change my mind, I am primarily a J style guy and this thing has dual MM style pups. I had to adjust the neck before taking it out but the action is very nice (i.e., better than I'm used to).
It's a shame that Douglas is gone from the bass line at Rondo. They do good guitars, and I have some of those too, but every single Douglas bass I've bought has exceeded my expectations, based on price.
Oh well, I'm just glad I have mine!
Luv my Douglas WPB-980 5!

Those look great. My Douglas Beatles Bass is very nice.

I know, right?Partscaster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 3:55 pm Those look great. My Douglas Beatles Bass is very nice.

Beautiful. I remember the neck through douglas that rondo blew out for maybe $120 or less. It was supposed to have some genetic defect but reportwere it just needed an adjustment. I was so tempted I tried to get my kid interested but he just wanted to use my kawai bass when he played. Well now he wants to take my kawaii and I dont have that doug as my backup or even better I could have weaned my kid onto the doug
I know what you mean about put away guitars. I just broke out my al2500 albino the last 2 weeks and its an insane waste keeping it boxed up.

Gee, I'm sorry you missed out. I'm not sure what model they blew out, but my other Douglas neck thru basses I bought as b-stocks for $100 apiece (WPB955 fretted and fretless). There was some controversy over the fretless because the side dots were in the same place as they are on a fretted neck, but I found out that once I know, it doesn't matter. Easy mental adjustment (I suck equally with either configuration).nomadh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 7:42 pm Beautiful. I remember the neck through douglas that rondo blew out for maybe $120 or less. Agree. I bought a Douglas violin bass one year as a present to my best friend. I wish I bough one for me.

I still have my 4 string version, it's an awesome bass and I think I got it on clearance for 100ish.dabbler wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 10:11 am One of the problems of having a lot of instruments is some don't get played much. That sure looks like it. Probably $100 was it. Or maybe it was some subset of them that had the problem and was $80 or so. I just remember it being insanely tempting. They were listed as no returns iirc and had to be modified but people here said it was just raising the action at the bridge.dabbler wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 9:43 amGee, I'm sorry you missed out.
