Yeah, I use an ad blocker on YouTube. Sometimes I still get a grey screen and Skip Ads button when I first load a video, but it doesn't interrupt me while watching the video. Main reason why I watch YouTube on my PC vs on my Xbox in the living room.
ad block plus havent seen an ad anywhere in years totally free
"Nationwide, on average 21% of adults in the US are illiterate in 2023. 54% of adults have a literacy below 6th grade level" Now I know whats wrong with people lmao
The "Skip Ads" nightmare just stops the video stream abruptly and randomly for 5 seconds and then the video continues. I have two blocker plugins which won't work as it appears they almost embed the "Skip Ads" in the stream.

The double video ad thing seems to have been going on for a while now from what I've seen. Yeah, it's annoying but at the end of the day someone has to pay for keeping the whole thing up and running. There are plenty of other options out there too.

I think the most effective way to get me to NOT be interested in something is to interrupt my video to tell me about it. That and "Hey don't skip this video!" BYE FELICIA.

After more research I've discovered that it is the particular "Channel Creators" who are "qualified to turn on monetization" on their videos so THEY get paid by Google.
Farkers.
NOTHING is going to dissuade me more from buying a product or subscribing to a channel than having the content interrupted every few minutes than that.

That is 100% correct and has been for quite some time. In some cases the channel owners also get "demonetized" for posting content that is not allowed or goes outside usage standards.

They also get demonetized, shadow-banned, or outright deleted for expressing opinions that run counter to Google's ideology, or for using words that YouTube declares forbidden.

I haven't noticed anything new since they changed RED to Premium and made it less of a premium service lol.
I'll use the hell outta YouTube TV when I can afford it though, and I've had Youtube Premium since before RED even existed (I had a google play music subscription and it included RED/Premium when they added the services).
It's nice being able to play vids and music on any device that can install youtube and not have ads or have to turn my screen off without having to root my phone and install a plug-in. I also do Hulu w/ no ads, Netflix 4k plan, Disney+, and Prime, it still comes out to less than Pappaw paid for a basic 20 year old package from Adelphia when I was a kid in the 90s, and definitely cheaper than any TV service Mom had that wasn't bunny-ear based.
It can be a little cumbersome switching around all of the apps, but definitely worth it and so much less hassle (not to mention more legal) than pirating or illegally streaming media.
