This one is currently in play. Cursory research indicates a high quality instrument that hasn't been made in a while with used ones going for $2000 plus. This one looks to be in pretty good shape but seller has not responded yet to a request for more info regarding that:

BitDefender just told me there's been a data breach with that site.

It looks like they're backordered, but still made: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez/AS2 ... -Guitar.gc

Maybe so. I don't know the model because I'd have to play one before I decided an Ibby was worth that much new. And I love Ibanez.

I am :). The Artist Prestige stuff is excellent, very high quality guitars. They ran from '79 until 2003 or so and then were reissued again in recent years (2014 or so). Not 100% sure on the year on this one but definitely 80s (maybe 84-85).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one assuming it's in good shape. Not easy to find a left-handed one.

Thanks for the info, at this point I'm only interested if the price stays ridiculously low. There's a 25% charge on top of the final action price plus the shipping from Canada has got to be around $150. Auction ends tomorrow evening, I'll be interested to see how high it gets...

Yeah worth keeping an eye on it for sure. I edited my post, it's likely a couple years younger than I initially said (probably mid-80s based on the truss cover and non-pearl tuner buttons, didn't notice the buttons at first).

It is gorgeous and looks worth going after. Made in Japan and older won't come around very often. I won't bid on it, it was your find @tobijohn . I would never have seen it without your mention. I think you need it. After all, they're only Canadian dollars, not real dollars.

I appreciate that but if it speaks to you, go for it. I really don't have any kind of burning desire or passion for it (maybe if it was CSB) , I'm really only interested on the off chance that some kind of killer deal fell into my lap, in which case I'd feel obligated. I suspect though that the total cost will be close to market value by the time the auction ends...

It is yours for the taking, because like you, I would only really want to chance it if it goes for too low. I did notice the strings have been rusting for a long time on the guitar. I can't see rust in other spots, but I have never actually seen strings rusted so bad they shed rust all over the fretboard below them as this one has. That worries me a bit for the electronics and I have to wonder if it was finger sweat or a damp environment that did that.

I think the latter, the auctioneer is located on Vancouver island. And yes, the functionality of the electronics would be a concern...

I'm familiar. I think Scofield played one and it's the basis for his signature model. It's a good quality guitar. Easily worth north of $1k.
Huge swathes of Vancouver Island is incredibly moist and exposed to salt water air. Not the entirety, it's a big island, but a lot of the city where this is being sold is near the water.

The scant description and the lack of communication troubles me... You would think he would try to hype the vintage angle, or something. It will be interesting to see how high the bidding goes. I saw a '80 AS200 selling for $1,100, and a '97 for $1,525. Reverb price range says $885-$1385, if their values are to be believed. Before I looked any of that up, I reckoned $1,000 (with all shipping and fees covered.) would be my jumping off point, but I don't know anything about Ibanez guitars and got curious if used prices would follow new prices, or if a mid-eighties Japanese Ibanez would have any "vintage" cache.

Looks like it doesn't.

But seriously, that seller seems sketchy.

I did hear back from the seller earlier this evening ("The condition is really good. It presents very nicely. There are no signs of abuse or restoration"). Although they have 4.5/5 rating on that auction site, judging from the response, I suspect they just don't have a lot of experience with musical instruments...

Oh, one of those people... Well, that would explain their lack of granular detail.

Oh gawd... Is that a Kahler trem shoved in there? And there's hardly any chamfering on the horns/body. Like it's been sanded down a few times before somebody decided to paint it with a bucket of ugly.

Well, with four hours to go, once the 25% buyer premium and shipping is added in, you're looking at around $750. Assuming it doesn't go any higher that's still a great price based on recent sales and even if moisture has damaged the wiring harness but too much for someone without a burning desire for the guitar...

I believe in the make and model. I just have no confidence in the seller. Maybe if they had better pictures from more angles, or if there was some guarantee of fitness as a working instrument, but no, not for me.

That poor SG looks just ugly enough to be a modern art masterpiece.

I was watching the auction just out of curiosity. Not surprisingly, someone bumped the bid by $150 more at the last moment.

With the 25% buyer fee, that brings it up to $937.50, or $745.82 USD. Then, it'll cost at least $100 to ship it. Still, not a bad price, but not if you just have a passing interest. What's up with that 25% charge, anyway? Do they charge sellers to list their items too?

Looks like it went for around $600 US. The 25% and the shipping adds at least another $250 so $850 total. I assume that 25% is what the site makes on the deal...

??? When I looked, it was up to $750.

[edit]

Oh, You said 'US'... nevermind.

I assumed the same thing, but 25% is kinda brutal. And if they're also charging sellers, that's even worse.
