The sheetrock can be put up with a sound deadening caulking compound gooped up each stud, called Green Glue. It's effective. There are videos about using it.
I've heard a bit about this. I find it very hard to believe you need glue to keep the sound from escaping tightly screwed drywall. Is it really that important?
Alot of audiophiles swear by it, but I skipped it cause it's too costly.
I did buy a bunch of "smoke and sound" caulking that I'll use in cracks here and there but it was considerably cheaper.

Yes, sound transfers through the layers, especially layers fastened tight to the next. Green Glue absorbs/deadens the vibrations moving through the wall. Sound can move through sheetrock, then transfer through the studs, then through the sheathing, etc. If you can deaden it at any material conjunction it really reduces what makes it to the outside.
I bet a layer of thin foam board ripped to 1-1/2 inches wide, and placed up the inside of the studs could create a similar deadening of vibrations moving through the wall. Even a 1/4 inch thick might be pretty effective. It just needs to break up the transfer.
There are also rolls of rubbery material people spread between floor layers to deaden sound transferring to below. It really works.

Such a beautiful natural setting? no windows?
No sir.
Less chances for sound to get out and less points of entry for potential thieves.
I would put in windows and make some sort of big baffles that can be put in and out. I'm thinking you'll be doing 30 times more pickup work and light playing than full vol band or pro recording, right?

Yup, I've used the Green Glue between 2 layers of sheetrock.
As far as on the studs before hanging the rock, I think strips of rubber like from an innertube, would be just as effective. Now those full sheets of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) are really the way to go IMO combined the the Roxul sound insulation.

Unfortunately, changes in my state have forced me to retire from online pickup sales. Local Craigslist sales won't be much.

On top of the roxul insulation, I've stapled moving blankets across the studs. I may place a thin layer of rubber where the studs are, but that ought a do it for me.
I've not even put up any sheet rock yet and my wife couldn't even hear me hammering in the 2nd floor floor joists the other day
That's going be such a great space I lost my music space in the divorce I used my about 1000 sq/ft in the basement band my rehearsed there every Thursday for years. Now she rents it to my granddaughter and her husband and keeps the money.

Oh, you're in california too? What changed? If government would put in just half as much effort in stopping people stealing as the put into stopping people from earning.....

VA.
We're pretty much the new California.
My lovely state legislature made it not worth it to run a small business.
All the talk of expensive sound deadening caulk. Why not use fiberglass insulation in the walls and ceiling reasonably cheap and help cool in hot Va. summers and warm cold Va winters. It'll pay for itself in electric savings.
It’s great to see the progress finally. The last I can remember about this was something about a designer you paid to start the work on it and he screwed you. My memory is fuzzy on details though. This looks solid though. I can’t wait to see the inner progress.
And bummer about making and selling pickups. I hope things change in VA regarding this.

Yep, took 2 years and 2 trips to court toget my deposit back from that douche.
I dont think things will change on the pickup front. My state legislature changed the laws last year...its coming for every state eventually but the blue ones are changing things first..

Death and taxes....
It's just not worth it anymore if someone is taking 1/2 of the profits..
Some messy inside shots.
All my remaining insulation and sheetrock is piled up with a bunch of tools and whatnot.
I've left out a couple floorjoists so I can get material up to the 2nd floor I will probably leave a permanent 4 ft gap between each side of the 2nd floor anyway. I'm thinking now that I'll leave the 2nd floor open on both sides with a 4ft gap separating each side where I'll put in a staircase. On the 1st floor I think I'm going to wall off the back half to make into a separate acoustic room. The remaining areas will all be connected and consist of a drum area and a guitar area.
I've left open a small area on the right as well where I'll put my ac/heat unit.
Insulation for the 1st floor is finished.
Next I need to start putting up some sheet rock but am looking into ways to do it myself without buying the $200 lift.
It's 14x32. The 2nd floor will not be quite as big cause the ceiling will be shorter closer the the walls.

Looking good. Oh sheetrock.
You can cut it into more manageable sized pieces. Make an "X" out of scrap 2x4's and punch a nail hole into the center of a 4 foot X 4 foot piece of sheetrock and lift from the rafters to the rafters with 550 cord and then brace it in the rafters with another 2x4 while you screw it in. Tape and mud.

I think I'll definitely have to cut into 4x4 sheets for the ceiling. Itll give me more joints to tape and mud but that's ok.
I made the mistake of pulling up too many supplies in here, making it hard to work around.
Shame to hear about your pickup business. I have/had a few of them, and have zero complaints. Have to wonder what is going on in this world we have now. Nice shed though.
Some progress.
2nd floor plywood is screwed down. I went with 1" but I got a great deal at $10/sheet. Have a couple sheets left over I might use for stairs.
Finished drywall upstairs except a small section in the top middle as I'm not sure yet what I'm doing for a heat vent. Pain in the butt as it was all cut sheets.
Also did strapping/furring for the 1st floor ceiling and started drywall. Should go quicker when I get back to it as I can mostly use full sheets on the 1st floor...just have to cut out my outlet holes.
I should have enough for 2 layers of 5/8 drywall on the 1st floor walls.
Strapping for 1st floor ceiling...I can't afford resilient channel so this is the next best thing for the ceiling in my budget. I'm also putting a strip of safe n sound acoustic sealant on all surfaces that get drywall.
I didn't want to deal with insulation rods so the strapping serves a dual purpose to keep the insulation in place before I can get drywall over it.
They don't sell 24" rockwool in my area so I had to get 16x47 sheets for regular studs and cut them into 16x23.5 sheets to use for 24" spaces like the floor joists.
2nd floor sheetrock is done except a small area in the middle as I'm not sure if I'm going with a ridge vent or a gable end vent.
5/8 drywall, all cut due to the barn style roof, no full sheets. Rockwool insulated and safe n sound sealant on every stud surface prior to putting up the drywall.
