Hi All:

So here is my interesting Rondo experience for today . . . the short version, I wanted one of these:

But I am doing some extended traveling;, so I when they came back in stock this last time, I waited. They sold out (as somebody noted on this forum the other say) I was bummed. But then suddenly another one showed up on the Rondo site. So I just ordered it: full price with tweed/gold case. I will have to ship it to myself later, but hey--I would have it.

Today, some 4 days later or so, I received the package and opened the case to find this:

Now . . . I like the quilt top! I wanted the quilt top! I ordered the quilt top! . . . but this is clearly a plain top.

Right? Or am I crazy?

I remember that when Rondo first started making these people were asking for different finishes including a plain top. So I dunno . . . I think I have the only one or at least the first I have heard of like it.

What should I do? Does anybody dig it? I can do some better pics when I get a chance here . . but so far, it looks to be a really nice one . . . I don't even have an amp where I am to plug it in . . . advice, thoughts?

Damn..id take that over the quilt in a heartbeat. Yes it's not what you ordered, maybe Kurt will throw you a bone to keep it? That's pretty much exactly a finish I had been hoping he would make in these all along - a traditional burst in either a flame or plain top.

Me too, I've got the quilted tobacco one only because that was the only finish offered in the first batch of lefty AD-3200MCCs. It's nice but I would have preferred either of the two finishes you mentioned...

If you didn't get what you ordered, you have a right to call and ask Kurt for some relief. I've never needed to, but most folks around here say he's pretty good to deal with.

Right. Personally for me the plaintop doesn't compare to the quilt. If he sent that to me I'd return it.

Here you go, right here. Four of your fave things in a single guitar:
double cut
left-handed
cherry sunburst
plain top

Man. . . I think I am not quite feeling the plain-top love! I mean . . . it looks like . . . wood . . . its very traditional looking me; I have been trying not to fuss with it too much (keeping it minty new), but it does seem like a really nice guitar.

well if you wanted and were expecting a quilt I feel your disappointment. A lefty like that I'd take over a quilt but that's my preference. If you ordered quilt and thats what you should have got reach out to Kurt. As an aside check your original order to make sure of what exactly got ordered.

If you don’t want it, I will buy it from you, or Kurt when you return it.

The plain top finish really makes it reminiscent of the old Yamaha SG DCs...

Thats what I was thinking looks like an older 70s yamaha or ibanez double cut which I want but wont spend that much money on lol. Maybe it was a sample sent to rondo I haven't seen that finish for sale from rondo on the ad3200 but maybe I'm wrong and they offered that finish and I missed it. If not looks like u got the most rare ad3200 finish around.
It looks very vintage cool, I dont go for plain tops often but I like it on that ad3200.

Hopefully, someday, Kurt gets a batch of 2TSB Flame tops in these.

quick update: is just that Kurt is gonna check to see if what was listed as the very last quilted one is actually another plain top . . . but either way I got either one or one of two of the plain tops! i put it in the closet with the plastic still on for now. I wanna see if the very last non-blurple/blue one is quilted or not; and thanks for all the love for the plain top . . . I feel guilty I got instead of any of you all! It was a total accident man! No . .. really . . .

In the end - it’s up to you to decide. FWIW, I had a AL-3200 with an outrageous quilt top. Looked like a hot buttered waffle. If I was buying today? I’d take a plain top every day and twice on Sunday.

Good luck with your decision.

I'm glad it's not a lefty because I already bought an AD-3200 this year, LOL. That is a very nice looking burst tho.

I think you should have the guitar that you wanted/ordered. It doesn't matter how many people like the plain top if you don't. If Kurt's out of quilted tops, then just return it, and wait until he gets some more in stock. You can't really play the guitar where you are, anyway.
Finally escaping the People's Republic of Kalifornia!
