RIP. Mr. Pride, very sad indeed that he was still actively playing just a month ago. I wonder how many people have to die before we collectively start taking COVID seriously.

At my age I've been taking it seriously all along. I figure if I get it, I'm dead.

By collectively I was referring to the US in general. Up around here bars and restaurants are packed with people every night and there is very little, if any social distancing or mask wearing happening in those places. Of course we are also pretty much the epicenter of the world for COVID anyway ( Wisconsin ) so it's not hard to put 2+2 together. Our largest regional health provider in this part of the state has had to ask for Army medical assistance as they simply cannot keep up with the volume of patients anymore, and the numbers of those hospitalized have continued to climb ever since the last "surge" started back in September. The husband of one of my wife's co-workers died from it last week, he was only 52 and completely healthy otherwise. He went from pretty much normal to dead in about 2 and a half weeks.

I don't claim to have the answers, but the most discouraging thing is the number of people who still outwardly deny or purposefully don't practice the things that we know do help.

People in my family take it seriously but you're right about others. I live in a hot spot not only the local idiots think they can ignore it. We get tourists who believe they are immune because they are on vacay. EDIT like an idiot I forgot the main reason for the thread. Sorry to see Mr. Pride go , he was one of the first country stars I really like to listen to.

Yes, that was my fault for getting off track in the first place - sorry to be such a downer. Been a bad week in general, the funeral for our young friend Drew that I mentioned in another thread here was today so not in the best frame of mind.

He was a great entertainer, and had to be, to overcome the simple fact that he was a black man singing country music. He probably put up with a lot, and STILL became a legend. I have a lot of respect for the man.

And, he is part of one of my all time favourite rock 'n' roll stories.....

I had no idea he was black until just recently. You keep hearing how racist the redneck south and Country western listeners are but even back in the 70s he was a pretty big deal in the country world it seems. RIP Mr Pride. Maybe the world will learn from your legacy to just let people be people and talent be talent.

He had over 50 top ten country hits & was RCA's biggest seller (as a recording artist) for over twenty years.
The old Hank Williams song "Kaw Liga" above was his first country hit.
And he was every bit the gentleman you think he was.

I remember hearing Chet Atkins tell of releasing it (Kaw Liga) without a picture of the artist.
His first real public appearance was at the Grand Ole Opry when Kaw Liga was in the top ten.
There was a GASP from the audience when walked on stage
and a standing ovation when he walked off!

RIP, one of my favorites from the older days. He was popular before my time, but I still love hearing "Kiss an Angel Good Morning"
