Long time since this one was playable

I sold my Gibson SG Jr. a couple weeks ago to pay for a transmission rebuild (still surprised what I was able to get, glad people can't or don't look at what I pay for some things). As a result, I had an empty spot on my office guitar rack.

Decided to make this a guitar again. I had swapped out the tuners for Kluson deluxes way back probably 2+ years ago while this was torn apart to replace the pickguard and do some other upgrades.

In typical SX fashion, nothing is actually installed straight/square. bridge and control plate are sort of wonky so I can't make a regular pickguard fit. Decided to just install a P90 instead and call it a day.

I forgot how resonant these light finish SX ash series guitars are. Especially with the string through. It sounds like a semi-hollow it puts out so much volume acoustically.

I wanted to install my S-D Lil 59'er in this, but the hole for the pickup is too small in this bridge and I fear I may have damaged the pickup trying to see if it fit through the hole in the bridge. It now have the neck pickup from my Harm in the neck, and I think a Squier Affinity series tele bridge, surprisingly balanced combo of pickups at the complete guess job on the pickup heights. (The Harm is getting some Buddha Jazzmaster p90s I got with the extra cash that isn't bound for the transmission rebuild)

Yup, it is still my favorite SX ever and is quickly becoming my favorite Tele. I was surprised/excited when I popped the pickguard.

I love the truck and was ambivalent about the SG Jr. Especially given the price I paid for it relative what it fetched me.

the transmission has been going for years, I just finally have decided I want to fix it instead of deal with it, probably would keep going for another few years the old C6 is hard to kill. It still works, it just has issues.

It was surprisingly easy to decide which guitar to sell when I saw listing prices of $1000 for guitars that sold as NOS for less than half of that. Having someone reach out to buy it the night I listed it just led me to believe it was fate, especially when they offered almost exactly what I needed to fix the transmission after Reverb fees and shipping was accounted for.

Never thought to pull the guard on mine to see if a p90 would fit. Mine is very resonant too I think louder than my semihollow. Enjoy I kinda like te look of it bare as it shows the wood so well.

I have an sx ash tele but it has the strat type body contours. I didn't know sx had a more straightforward ash tele like yours. You say its a light finish. What do you mean by that? Lighter colored ash?

You can feel the grain, the finish feels like it has the only thinnest sealer on it.

I think I do remember a thin finish oil only, no poly type special model. Very hard to find a guitar like that from any vendor. I am very curious about how that will feel. I have played a few acoustics recently where its thin fin and no grain filler and they seem to explode with resonance. In fact there is a cheap $100 non grain filled ash acoustic I am so tempted to get just to try it out. I do like natural wood grained guitars and we all know the only thing better than being able to look is being able to touch!

Having held this in person was an epiphany. It feels so good. Very dry bare wood. I've got some ash bodies here that's going to get the same treatment with just a little stain to enhance the grain.

These were fantastic. Kurt should have continued these.

Yea. I remember those. I was attracted to them too. Just a bit more raw than my sg faded brown. Minimal finish is a nice change of pace.
