Well, did anyone here give it a try this year?

I had planned on it but then was asked to watch the grand kiddos so that sounded like more fun to me.

Not planning on participating. The cost has gone to $40 which is pretty high considering you're not guaranteed to get enough things you want to equal that. Plus, last year there was a 3-4 minute window in which to buy it.

Oh boy! It's that time of year again... Another chance to buy $40 worth of random crap I don't need or want.

Didn't they used to give you a chance to win a guitar, or something of considerable value? It looks like the biggest prize you can expect to win is a pedal of some kind. I think I'll pass (again) this year.

1,800 stockings? That's $72,000. Now, if they gave a detailed list of the prizes it might be worth it. I see Mercury magnetics as a sponsor, if they were giving away a $400 set of tube amp transformers I'd be more inclined to join. Plus the fact it's only a 3 minute window, if they had 1 day window and then drew names out of a hat it might be better.
I got picks, stickers, size .013 strings and some pedal jumpers a few years back so there was no reason to waste money on it after that.

It would be bad enough if as you described, you would get $40 worth of random stuff. That’s not the case. It’s most likely to be $10-20 worth of random crap you don’t need or want for the bargain price of $40. I’ll take a pass.

Yup. If this was a $10 grab bag maybe. But at $40 and a 3 min window? I guess there are 1800 people who like this WAAAAY more than I do.

Yeah, I was being charitable... I assume they're using list prices (MSRP) to arrive at the $40 value. But most of the stuff you get is worthless to me anyway, no matter what the retail price is. If I needed an egg shaker, or a capo, or a set of strings I don't like, in a random gauge, I can buy that crap myself.

And stickers?? Really?? As it is, I don't know what to do with the stickers that come free with the products I buy... except to throw them in the trash..

I was actually willing to try, but of course I missed the window. To me, the short window is what really makes it unworkable.

Hey All....well I was lucky enough to get in, but the stuff I got was definitely a disappointment. A Fender Strap, Santa Cruz low tension strings (whatever that means), a few stickers and a coupond I will never use. Stuff barely retails for $30. There web promo boasts:

"Q: Will I definitely get my money worth?
A: Yep."

Well not! They say no returns, but I still email to let them know I did not get my "moneys worth"....probably fall on deaf ears.
Guess is they send out a few dozen really nice ones....then as stated above, random crap.
Oh well.....Merry X-mas!

I appreciate you guys sharing your experiences with these packages. Without hearing first-hand from buyers, it's easy to see it going either way - Schrodinger's Stocking.

Honestly I’ve seen this every year and never had any interest. Sure some people win big but it’s a couple people out of probably 2,000, the odds that you’ll get a big ticket item are extremely slim. 99% of the people who buy one of these get $40 worth of stuff they never would’ve bought even if it was on sale for 50% off.

Wasn't that song about someone getting screwed in the end?

Great riff. I was playing what I can remember of it a few nights ago...... "It's not against the law" (well, some places) ....

It's especially true if you're talking about women (which he was), but it's generally true about most other things too.
