Looks like the safety standards are similar to @Tonray's Ghost description of the roadways.

That turbodiesel "boat" the narrator was riding in was insane.

You can easily get a private ride on these boats at many places in an around Bangkok. Big Block V8 Engines hanging off a thin boat are something to see

Actually most Thais in normal conversation, call it by its shortened Thai name, "Khrung Thep"
