I just got a firefly semihollow spalted and was very impressed. It's like a prettier ver of my plain epi dot studio. So I'm thinking I may sell the dot.
Anyway it got me thinking. I have the very excellent callisto jr. I like it alot but I wish it was a double cut. Just wondering if anyone here can compare the sx sc to the firefly?
Sx callisto jr or firefly lp doublecut?

Are you asking if there was a DC version of the Callisto? I always kick myself for not getting one of those Callisto SX singlecuts back in the day when they were 125 or so.

I liked the look of the SX DC/callisto(?),, or was it an Agile model?...from about 2 years ago with the slight curved asymmetric horns.
Also the AD201 looks nice

No I have the single cut callisto jr. Old model with the set neck. Great guitar. I just prefer doubles. I have an sg I like. I'm just wondering if the doublecut firefly are about as good as the callisto jr I have?

Gotcha. I cannot speak to a comparison of a Callisto to a FireflyDC as I've never actually had a Callisto in my hands. I did have a A Firefly DC for a short time though, it was the single pickup version in vintage white. I also did own 2 different AD-201's on occasion, wish I would have kept one of them for sure, but another story for another time.
There was really nothing wrong with the firefly, but it was not even close to the level of quality on the AD-201. All the hardware on the firefly ( tuners, bridge, etc ) was the cheapest of cheap and I would have definitely replaced it if I had kept it. The pickup sounded fine and the wiring was actually pretty decent - it had braided wire and full size pots, albeit nothing had a name on it. It even had a no-name large orange capacitor. The fretboard needed a very serious de-gunking and the frets were kind gritty - I got the infamous FF "black finger syndrome" pretty quickly after unboxing. The finish and feel of the body was pretty decent though and it would have been an OK platform to mod with a lot of work. But even then I don't think it would have been Agile quality.
I say all this and sit here with one of the Firefly F338's in my cart on Amazon...been through that ringer 2 times now and never learn my lesson I guess. I saw they have several colors back on Amazon with free shipping and the Vintage Sunburts for $160. Damn you cheap guitar teasing gods...

I say go for it but get an upgraded finish for just a few bucks more. My spalted 338 went right up on stage with me as is just like my old al2500 did years ago. I was just doing an open mic last night. It did catch feedback and howled a bit more than I expected but the drummer was flinchingly loud. I got farther from the amp and I wanted a bit less gain anyway so it ended up great. Any hollow is asking for problems but I'd say the pickups must certainly be potted to some extent. Probably just quick dipped.uwmcscott wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 11:20 amGotcha. I cannot speak to a comparison of a Callisto to a FireflyDC as I've never actually had a Callisto in my hands. My sx was pretty good but not agile level. I didnt replace any hardware but the sx did need the nut lowered.
I dont need a double cut lp and I love that sx callisto jr. I think the only way i can justify buying the ff jr is if i plan on selling the sx. Probably wont happen but it's my only way to justify it.
Btw still haven't even started on selling the dot studio or my johnson jazz box.
