Mickey, you are certainly a trove of knowledge! I mean that without any snark or sarcasm.mickey wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 4:25 pm Well, Joe Maphis was as comfortable on a mando (or banjo, or piano, or fiddle, or ....) as he was on guitar.
I tend to suspect that a young Semie Moseley was a lot more comfortable making an octave guitar than a mando.
And that doubleneck of Joe's was a custom Mosrite hollow body made by Semie when he was scarcely out of his teens.
OK...So Someone FINALLY Said It!

My remarks weren't directed at anyone in particular, either... I've enjoyed everything of yours that I've heard so far, because your stuff is musical.Narsh wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 11:54 am
In the end, Narsh isn't some famous guy, he's just a dude who plays guitar and records a crap ton of songs because he needs to stay sane. But, I totally respect everyone's opinion on music, shred and curtains, fabric and which diapers cause less skin rash for babies.
I'm not down on metal either, I listen to almost everything, and my comments could just as well have been levied against Bela Fleck and Vic Wooten... Fleck has openly admitted that a large percentage of his ego is invested in how fast he can play. I've seen the Flecktones twice, and between him and Wooton's relentless right hand, my ears get exhausted about two hours in to their 3+ hour show, and it doesn't sound like music to me anymore.
I'm impressed with technical playing (which is why I like the band in the first place) and I'm a pretty big fan of prog and fusion too, so I have no problem with over-blown, virtuosic playing... It's just the notion that "fastest" equals "best" that makes me cringe.
And Yngwie has expressed on many occasions that he's the best guitarist in the world, because nobody can play faster than him, so he was an easy target.

I thought "The Edge" was "the best guitarist in the world", I certainly have heard "Bono" say that. No reasons were given, it was supposed to be taken as absolute truth, like anything #2 says

No. It's from a South Park episode (which I never watch, but someone I know talked me into watching that one). In it "Bono" claims and vehemently always insists that he's "number 1", to the point of getting upset. As the episode progresses, it turns out that the reason it's so important to him is because in reality he is a literal "number 2" (a turd that came to life). I never cared but that was art imitating life, if I ever did see
