My daughter wants to spin vinyl in her room and was showing me pictures of the cheap suitcase turntables. I told her we should look for something a little better quality so I started looking for a good vintage deck. I picked up a vintage Dual 1019 and got to work. It was filthy, missing the cartridge sled and cartridge, and none of the functions worked. I did a degrease and relube of all the changer mechanism componets, cleaned all electrical contacts, lubed the motor, installed a new sled and cartidge, fully cleaned top to bottom and we are now good to go. Sounds great and she's happy!
Turntable Restoration
For testing I ran it into a Sansui 5500 receiver and fed a pair of Boston Acoustics A70's. Sounded great. In her room we will connect to her Onkyo TX-8511 with a pair of Boston A40 bookshelves. Her room is being rearranged so we haven't had a chance to play it in there yet.
It's been a fun project and I'm encouraged that she wants to listen to records.
