Yeah 1986 was the tipping point alright. Last of the good stuff, and first of the bad. Mass manufacturing for everyone, large drop in quality, and huge scale importing instead of buying American. Fortunately, were looking at recovery soon.

RATT's Dancing Undercover is one of the greatest albums made in the decade of the 1980s. I'm dead serious. Of course I'm not supposed to make a convincing argument to win you over to that that opinion, because in successfully doing so I would be defeating my own argument in asserting that it is a minority opinion. But just humor me for a moment:

*It was produced in 1986. That year was sacred, a peak, just trust me on this.
*The song "Body Talk". That combination of thrash, hair metal, and bluesy swing all at one; Warren's orgasmic solo; Blotzer's drumming (the Steven Adler of RATT).
*This video for "Dance, Dance, Dance". This is what it is like to be a god. That open high at hat 1:17 always gets me.

That is a damn solid album--just the right amount of grit. The next one was a little too fancy. Pearcy's voice was cool and distinctive. I am not a huge fan of " Body Talk." Now "Enough is Enough," the album closer, was great.



Their first three major label albums were a very strong run of material.

I wasn't crazy about Dancing Undercover. This was probably my favorite song from it. I dug it mostly for the guitars, not the puerile lyrics.

I think the Bandit is pretty roundly underrated and the transtube amps in general get a bad rep.

Even the Rage I had sounded quite nice through a decent speaker cabinet when playing at a low level of gain where the Peaveys shine IMO.

Well, mine is a red stripe. And not a one of my guitars sounds bad through it, as long as I stay away from the modern setting. It especially likes my Pacifica 1221.

That must be it. I acquired mine as a throw in on a trade, and I know of no red stripe involved. It's a fizzy little thing, so it sits in my shop as a tester for wiring projects.

The Bandit red stripes are getting a deserved reputation as a decent sounding amp. I tried one in a store once with a matching extension cab. I should have bought them both then. The second speaker makes it even better.

I don't have a Bandit, but I do have an Express 112 which is very similar. I replaced the stock Sheffield speaker with a better one; the amp is now a great clean platform, and even moderate gain sounds surprisingly good. Reasonably light-weight and loud enough for medium sized gigs.

You might as well buy what looks good because most of this crap dont matter. Strings light enough. Low enough action. Plays in tune up the neck. Pickups good enough to not hate them. Done. Now I want that in blue and s flametop and a strat shape in ash and in an sg shape and lpjr shape with nice woodgrain ....

My #1 looks like a post-fire Pinto and rides like a Ferrari engine on Benz suspension.

The main reason it stays my #1, is that it's comfortable as hell. You don't feel anything while you're playing, and your hands or neck don't get tired. It's almost like it's just you and the strings.

I can't find people to remain friends with anymore. Maybe I'm just getting a head start on the "get off my lawn" phase of life, but people just don't want to have an intelligent, reasoned, yet still open approach to conversation. It's all such a competition - their story has to be better, their possessions have to be better, their opinion has to be more correct than yours - even if it's the same fucking opinion -- "LeSs FiLLiNg! TaStEs GrEaT!", etc.

I'm not talking about the general public, but individual people here. I'm a friendly guy, I'll strike up a conversation with anyone - but it's like everyone's in such a snit (or so defensive) that they come back with some sort of verbal jab to maintain some sort of conversational upper hand or something. Inconsideration rules.

I'm capable of accepting the fact that a person sitting across from me loves something I absolutely loathe. In fact, I'll usually ask why they like it - what they might see in it that I'm missing. Those differences are interesting to me, but very few people seem to be willing to invest in convos like that anymore. It doesn't much seem to matter if the issue has any real consequence or not - recently I was soundly bashed over my preference for XBox over Playstation. I mean they just wouldn't let it go, even after my attempts to change the topic - They had to convince me to love the Playstation and renounce all other video-gamey affectations.

Since I moved here, I've tried to be a part of things. I've sought out groups, tried to find my tribe as it were. You'd think that with interests like music/singing performance/music production, guitars, woodworking, video games, cars, guns, etc. that I'd have no issue finding like minded people to spend time outside the house with. It doesn't seem to be the case. I'm beginning to think that there aren't any chill people in Utah capable of showing genuine interest in differing opinions and allowing others to be themselves. I'm interested in the quality of a person, and I seek the same in return.

I dunno, maybe I'm the asshole. I've never seemed to be able to fit in with the cool kids, which led me to affiliations with the not-cool kids - and I love those folks. They were always the ones willing to accept you for who you are, and I'm beginning to wonder if they exist anymore.

I really don't want to walk around carrying a "people suck" attitude around, but I don't seem to find very many convincing arguments otherwise.

There are also a shit-ton of other Texans and Californians here, judging by the demographic numbers and license plates. Utah gets a bad rep, but it's actually a really nice place. Perhaps I should've just used the phrase "in this local area" instead of indicting the whole damn state.
