Turns out that although I managed to make something that isn't shocking, I'm also lacking the skills, and tools, to do anything that could stand there 'naked' so paint and MDF it will remain!

Looks good! I don't understand how you can cut and shape MDF, but not wood. I use the same tools for each material, myself.
I'm building an arcade machine out of the stuff, and it'll get a coat of Kils just before some nice semi-gloss black.
This was always supposed to be a prototype, so a quick sand, and some hammered finish gloss black and silver, to go with the office desks for me.

When I am a bit more free to go to a lumber yard, I may well pick up some nice wood and do it again in a natural finish.
