Looks like fender has a deal going on their accessories site ( including necks ) for 30% off if you buy 2. I had been eyeballing the roasted maple ones ( not the vintera ) with the matte backs - this would put them at about $245.

Not knowing really anything about fender necks other than that I own a tele and a strat that came with them, are there certain models that fit certain lines? My tele is a 2018 american special, and my strat is a 2012 american standard.

These are the necks I was looking at. I was mainly looking at the tele option originally but if I had to buy 2 to get the deal these would be my choices. I really like the roasted maple look, and also the satin/smoot finish on the backs. I'm also looking to get a little bit fatter neck than the thinner one that's currently on my american special.

For the Tele

For the Strat:

These appear to be predrilled - and I have never installed a neck before. Is it as simple as setting it in the neck pocked and installing the screws? I have to say it kind of freaks me out to take a neck joint apart.

you can add 1 expensive item and 1 really cheap item like the rubber washer strap locks and still get the 30% off.

If you have a Fender body, a Fender neck drilled for Fender will be a direct install.

If it is any other brand body, you probably will have to drill in my experience.

I bought a used MIC Fender Jaguar neck and it fit my MiM Jaguar. My Musikraft was also a perfect fit.

I've had half a dozen other strats and teles and not one was perfectly lined up with the screw holes like the way Fender does it. Not sure why the other import folks have so much trouble even within the same brands.

Thanks. This would be a direct replacement for my 2018 American Special tele. Another stupid question probably, but are the holes tapped or do you need to tap them if they are not? I watched a guy do pretty much exactly what I plan on doing and he just put a little wax on the screws he had taken out and put them right back in to the new neck with a hand screwdriver.

I like to soap the screws just in case, but just a regular screw driver always. Don't want to risk a broken screw using a impact driver.

If it is a Fender product it should drop right in and the holes should line up.
