A 1980s Casio EG-5: Built-In Amp, Drive, Cassette Player
https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/msg/ ... 42448.html

Yeah, it not only has a built-in amp, it has a built-in cassette player too. Because 1980s. The body appears to be made of the finest of tone plastic. Would be pretty cool if you were in some kind of 1980s synth pop or new wave tribute band, though.

Here's an overview video.

Didn't Sears sell those back in the day?

That one's kinda janky, but some of the old Casios that are MIDI capable would be instabuys for me if I ran across it somewhere I could verify it working. It would make a fun controller.

I drove a car with a cassette player well into 2010's AND I had cassettes that I played in it. And I don't care what people say, I had same albums on cassettes and CD's and cassettes sounded better to me. And music that I liked, I just listened all the way through, no need to skip or search. And who didn't love to make a "backup" tape of each CD?

Cue toomanycats - He will crash a local Pawnshop, score one of these for 7 bucks, and perform and record a really decent sounding song using only the Casio and a 40 cent Pawnshop cassette tape.

A few years ago our tween niece was visiting and we gave her a little cassette walkman to listen to a tape. She's never seen cassettes, had no concept of it being outdated. She just thought it was "cool" :)

The kidz (by which I basically mean hipsters, not actual children) are really into cassettes these days. For them it's mostly about having a retro-style collectible, I think, although a few people seem to have deluded themselves into thinking there's something actually better about the cassette experience.

I can't help thinking how with that guitar and the right tape you could either be a one man busker or the deceptive stage act TMC describes....

On the other hand, for the times it would have been the perfect "learning the song from the record" practice setup.

I personally quite enjoy the quality of an analog cassette over compressed streaming audio...

Yeah, neither do I. The only Casio "guitar" I remember is this:

It had plastic everything and sounded like shite, but my boy Sam put it to good use:

Ok, it looks like Sam has one of those cassette guitars too... This was just posted this morning:

Apparently, this thing was only released in Japan. That's why we've never seen one.

I Was just at an open mic and there was a gut there with a pushbutton mini plastic guitar and a drum app on his smartphone. He sat with the tiny guitar and pressed buttons up and down the neck while he touch strummed and also tapped on his phone that was sitting on his leg to the beat. All into a battery powered mini amp. He was more entertaining than the very good player who took 3+ min to tune his gibson lp. Or the woman with a tele that seemed to be constantly tuning but never quite getting there. at least for those few minutes. Now Im sorry I didnt get a pic.
