Incoming Furrian

Had never bought an SX guitar except to flip. My #1 bass is an Ursa, so when Rondo ran their sale this week, I bit on the natural finish Furrian for $125.

Can't have too many Teles.

Should be here middle of next week.

Hope it is a winner for you.
I liked the rounder neck profile on the one I had, and on the Hawk and Liquid.

Me too. I like chunky necks, and I cannot lie.

Also interested to check out the radius on it. It's 13.7 or something, which seems crazy on a Fender guitar, but I've found I like the 12" a lot on the guitars I have, so this may be right up my alley.

Looks nice! just gotta love that airbag packing on the sx guitars its the best other than the styro caskets from china. The sx looks just like my crap 89.00 basswood hadean tele but diff tuners, headstock, jumbo frets and blk pickguard, more like 3rd cousins lol. but im sure the tone is nicer on the furrian. sx really are hard to beat esp at that 125 price on that alder one its a steal of a deal i was very tempted. how much does it weigh?

Yeah, the packing was great. The packing probably could have stopped a bullet.

I checked out those Hadeans. They looked good too, and I'm sure yours sounds great. This Furrian came in and looks flawless. Really high quality finish on it. The action was nice and pretty low right out of the box, and the intonation is right on, too.

Fret ends are dressed well. Only niggle is that there is definitely some grittyness on the frets when bending notes. Not horrible, but I have some Meguiar's compound coming in and am going to polish the frets with a dremel once it gets here. Will put 10's on it and do some shielding while the strings are off as well, but so far, it's pretty quiet. The neck is VERY flat, and pretty chunky. I like the chunkiness.

As far as weight--haven't weighed it yet, but it's definitely solid, and I think it weighs more than my Nashville, which is also Alder wood.

Was that always the Furrian headstock ? I briefly had a beige Furrian which I quickly sold to fund another guitar which I later regretted selling..but not to hijack my own post, I seem to recall a more traditional Tele headstock or am I dreaming?

I think in the 2010s, Rondo had the "Fender with a hook" headstock for a while.

After that, I think they had some with a "seal's flipper" headstock.

Not sure if there was one with a more "Tele" profile though.

I've always been under the impression the hook was the Rest of World SX headstock once Rondo became the US distributor. They always had the same headstock for both Furrian (new headstock) aka STL (old headstock) and Hawk (new headstock) aka SST (old headstock). The newest headstock looks like the Constellation series (Leo/strat and Taurus/tele).

The LTD II is the one I was introduced to Rondo on (when I was still thinking about trying righty instead of lefty), they still had the nicer Fender-y one for a while when I started buying, have that on all but my thin finish ash series Furrian.

One I wish I had back was the ash SST with P90s. That was a veritable steal. ImageImage

Yesterday I shielded the cavity and polished the frets with a Dremel tool and some polish recommended by a youtube guy. It worked great, and no more gritty frets.

Restrung with 10s and tuned her up.

The bridge pickup on this guitar is really bright. REALLY bright. Neck is pretty dark, as well. Both are usable though. Just have to work the tone knob. The frets were fairly well finished. No sprout, but they needed a fret dress. They are level and the action is set perfectly to what I like, which is not super low, but lower than most of these types of guitars OOTB. Did not have to touch intonation on it. Nice.

Neck radius is definitely something to get used to. Flatter than a squirrel in the road. Pretty chunky though, and fun to play.

My opinion on this guitar (first SX guitar I've owned) is that quality wise--as far as the neck and body--it's pretty darn close to the higher end Squier's like the CV. It's not quite there, and the hardware/pickups are definitely not at that level, but it's a higher quality guitar than the Affinity line. There's no comparison, as far as I'm concerned. Enjoying it so far.
