LATEST MOD: SX Furrian- Cheap Tele Deluxe Build

I have not posted any NGD's here for quite some time. I have hardy been around the last couple of years. So, I am a bit overdue.

I used to post Agile NGD threads all the time, but I have really cooled on Agile recently. I did get another AL-3200 about 6 months ago though, so maybe I will post a thread about my AL/AD 3200's soon.

But, I did manage to get this SX Ash Furrian and created a cheap Tele Deluxe-style guitar. I gutted the whole guitar. It has a Switchcraft switch, Bournes pots, orange drop caps, Switchcraft input jack, and much improved wiring, wired in the 50's style. I also threw some old Tele Deluxe style witch hat knobs on it for a vintage vibe. The pickups are the new GFS Surf 180 humbuckers. I also did a complete fret level/crown/polish. I still have a bone nut I am going to install whenever I have the spare time, even though the current plastic nut is cut fairly well. I have some stainless steel saddles I may end up installing, but the guitar is already pretty bright, so with the stainless steel saddles, it may end up being a bit too much in the brightness dept. I did not have to shim the neck or anything. This plays really well as is. I also have the trem blocked off. I almost always block off the trem if a guitar has one.

Anyways, I now have a nice guitar for about $350 and a lot of labor (which is fun to me). The Surf 180 pickups are really interesting. They are bright and very articulate. I actually need to roll down the tone on the bridge pickup sometimes. They kind of remind me of a Wide Range humbucker, crossed with an old DeArmond Dynasonic. Very cool.

Anyways, thought that I would throw this out there for you guys.

Love it, great work!

It would only need one more fret, the 22th, to be perfect (IMHO) :D :)

I really like that Tele. But, isn´t it a LP-like guitar? (single cut, HBs, 4v4t, 3wayswitch).

Your guitar looks really cool and the woods look very similar to my SX. The pickguard is bigger and you have the extra knobs. I do like how the the switch is in the Gibson style location. I do not know enough about pickups and wiring and so forth to say other than my new SX has single coils that behave differently from humbuckers.

I love to look at stuff like this and am a bit envious of you all that are confident enough to do all of these creative modifications.

There are some great video makers with guitar soldering vids to help.
Jonesyblues is a fella with youtube vids. Might be worth watching him work on guitars for a few vids, even if you decide not to. He'll talk about the components...pickups, potentiometers, capacitors, switches. He even has specific vids on all that stuff...and there are tons of other folks too.
Its worth watching just to get a sense of what the different parts do, and how they may be varied.

Breja Toneworks, is a guy with tons of modifications vids...adding switches, linking pickups in different ways, switching tone control around, etc.

Good luck. And enjoy your SX tele.

Yeaah it is. I usually just block off any trems, but if your into that sort of thing, then I imagine it would be really cool having it on a guitar like this.
