NGD: Agile AD-3200 Plaintop! One of two in existence.

Well, I bought the one plaintop Ad-3200 That Rondo had listed a couple of weeks back. It arrived super fast. I really like it. It took me a while to get use to the plainness of the top, but now I like the simplicity, seeing how I do have some guitars with a lot of bling. This one just has straight grain. Probably the cheapest maple they could get to be honest, but it's cool, as long as it's real maple. It's is unique in it's simplicity.

One thing I noticed is that this is a tad thinner and lighter than the AD-3200 Blurple that I got from the first batch (the ones that came with the G&B pickups). I would say it is 1/16" thinner. It's enough to notice. The guitar weighs in at about 9.25 lbs. The Giovanni GVH-1 pickups are like the others coming in the Agiles these days. I think they sound pretty damn good in this particular guitar, and even though I already know what I am going to do with modding it, I am in no super big hurry. They will eventually come out though. The finish and binding appear to be flawless.

I am thinking about putting amber speed knobs on it, for that 70's look. What do you think?

There are a couple of issues though. One was that the nut was too high, so the strings were way off the fretboard at the first fret. It was ridiculous. It was an easy fix, as I took the nut off and just sanded it down a little. Still, I should not have to do that on a new guitar. The second issue is how wonky this switch cover looks. If you notice there is a big gap in the upper right area and in the lower left the cover is right on the very edge, before the taper of the body starts. So, my question is. Would you consider this to be not a big deal, or would this be a B-stock, worthy of me asking Rondo for a partial refund? I don't want to be too picky here.

Last but not least.......Something that does not have anything to do with this guitar, but it is in regards to my order. I also ordered a basic bridge to replace a roller bridge with. Look at the studs/post that they included with it. Unbelievable. Are they blind!!!?? I will be showing this to Rondo.

Nice! That reminds me of a vintage Ibanez AR. Some of those black knobs with the rubber rings would definitely be cool.

Looks fantastic!

I´d accept the switch cover just like that; yes, it´s a "detail", but no big deal for me. On the other hand, a refund is always nice to get.

Speed knobs would look great on it. Go ahead.

Did you order it with or without a hard case?

I have no more to say, except that I love it!

Enjoy it, HNGD!

Looks great to me. I would not personally consider any of those to be b-stock worthy problems, but that's just my $.02.

I've got one of the two lefty CSB plain top AD-3200MCCs (as well as one of the two lefty GT P90 AD-3200MCCs). The grain on mine is a bit muted as well but it still looks distinctive. The build quality is exceptional on both and both have that vibe of a professional instrument. I'm not quite sure how to describe specifically what that is but after handling as many guitars as I have, I know it when I feel it. The only issue was the bridge pickup ring on the CSB is about 1/8" lower on one end than on the other. I never would have noticed it if I hadn't planned to add a pickguard. However, it is easily correctable by leaving the top screw on the opposite side in, pushing the ring with the pickup still attached up and redrilling the low hole (the other two screw holes do not have to be redrilled). The Giovannis definitely sound better than the G&Bs but as I already have GVH-1s in a couple other Agiles, I'll be replacing them with i think a set of either Buddhas or SD Saturday Nght Specials...

I think plain tops just showing grain can be pretty striking, making the burst stand out more. Yours looks nice. That's a lot more grain than I've seen on some. Some have such tiny tight uniform grain they make it hard to tell it's wood. I would not be worried by the switch cavity cover. The posts are another story, I would call them on that.

I like that idea. I'm thinking of doing a blackout kit on mine and if so:

Wasn't available when I was shopping, BUT it also looks like it is for 1 knob.

YIKES, you're right! At that price, I just assumed it was for a set. $68 for a set of knobs is insulting...

Here's a set on eBay for $14:

The switch cover issue being on the back side would be a non-issue for me. The nut thing is annoying but better too high than too low.

All in all, I am somewhat regretting not buying it!

Yeah the switch cover would be no big deal to me either. And I kind a like the knobs you have on there, I think it goes great with the top.

CONGRATS!!!!

Looks great. It's got nice grain... I like grain better than figuring these days.

I also agree with pretty much everybody about the switch cover. I wouldn't think of it as an issue worth making a fuss over... and it's fixable.

I don't like amber knobs, and I don't like speed knobs, so I would say no to that... But you're going to do what you want anyway, so...

With coil splits, it's more a matter of functionality. It's really tough to get a grip on the stock style knobs to pull up...

Congrats, that is sweet!
i dig the plain or a little flame maybe over the real busy tops.
I would expect a decent nut fit but not surprised if it needed a little fine tuning.
I REALLY like those pick ups too.
Or at least the set I have in a mahogany AXL LP type sound great.

Not a bstock but he should have discounted it at least the cost to ship it back. Plus a bit more for the nut. I expect that on an sx not an agile.
