Damn that is a beauty, but not what you wanted.
Hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction.

No; I have mine here in front of me! I think what happened is Kurt sold the last of those quilt ones, then found two more boxes that said there the quilts. I saw them go up on the site and bought one immediately. I dunno how it got put in the case without noticing it was not a quilt but anyway they sent it to me, and I let him know it was actually plain. He went in today to check for me--if it was quilt he would hold it for me, if plain put it up on the site. I told him it would sell immediately; that picture on the site should be of the one he is shipping to you since (so far as we know) right now there have only ever been two of these.
Oh Okay. I didn't mean to stand you up on the one I said I would buy from you. I just figured that you sent it back for me to buy from them since the shipping from them will be cheaper than from you. So...that means that there will be another one listed on Rondo in a week or so, assuming you are sending yours back.minigoos wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 4:07 pm No; I have mine here in front of me! Oh no worries; I was posting that another one was gonna come up on the site so you or whoever could jump on it. I am not sue about this one I have still--I have some time to play with it and I can run it into garageband at least to get a feel since I don't have an amp here; it plays real nice.

That's very plain top. I can like a plain top but that usually means to me some character. I like to know it is actually wood. At the least he should discount it the cost of his shipping. Better if it's the cost of your shipping since it isnt what you wanted. More considering it could be damaged shipping and he could eat it it so some risk there. His upside is he can certainly sell it easily. Maybe he can lower it to the point where you can accept it? What discount would make you like it? If not maybe you return it and he can offer you a 10% off on your next order?
I can't lie about it, the thing has grown in me a a lot--not so much because Kurt has only offered to refund it (yep I think he knows he can sell it easily enough) but because after playing it more and getting to know it, it really is flawless. Unlike the blue AD-3200 which had some flaws for sure (I looked at my pics from when i had it; I documented some pretty unacceptable stuff) and unlike my 3100se (which was B-stock so fair enough), this one has no physical imperfections I can find at all. I dunno if the same would be true if I waited till May and got a quilt. And yeah--its plain, but the very simple, straight, maple grain has a kinda understated class about it.nomadh wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 11:00 am That's very plain top. Which leads me to a construction question; that maple on the top is the cap right? You wouldn't put a veneer of plain maple over a maple cap . . . would you? Anyway--I am not gonna take it apart to have a better look at till I commit to keeping; but its nice to imagine that very straight maple is really the cap.

I think most maple capped Agiles are a maple veneer over the 3/4" maple cap. Some older AL models(4000?) had just the 3/4 cap, no veneer. But they were from long ago.

Should at least discount you his cost to return it. That costs him nothing and saves him time, work, and the liability of shipping damage. Explain that to kurt.
If it grows in you that can be the way to go. Sometimes it's better to let the best one pick you. At least it has worked that way with women many times.

I really don't think they would put a plain maple veneer on a maple cap. Too much extra work. Especially when the veneer would be just straight grain. I would bet money that is just the plain cap.

Does the cap cover the neck through on the 3200’s or is it two “wings”? Has anyone scraped the shielding paint in a pickup cavity to see how they are put together?
That's a very good question. I don't believe I have looked on my other AL-3200's. This guitar is supposed to get here tomorrow. I will make an effort to check that out. I will be pulling the pickups to check those out anyways.

yes, the 4000 and the 3500 had a full maple cap with no veneer, as did the "M"models like the AL 3000M, and the AD3000M. All the other 3xxx series have a flame/quilt/whatever veneer over a maple cap that assumingly is not as flamey or quilty.Partscaster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 9:06 pm I think most maple capped Agiles are a maple veneer over the 3/4" maple cap. There have been reports here ( well on the old AGF ) of even an occasional 2000 or 3000 that had a full thickness cap, but probably just a fluke.
So yeah - all you 3000 owners have plywood guitars and you didn't know it ( I have one too so the jokes on me as well )

I'm betting it's the 3/4" cap no veneer. they'd veneer flames or quilt. The neck through thing With Agile the neck through never showed on the front . I'm assuming just the mahogony was through necked with a 1 or 2 piece cap. But that's just me pulling answers out my ass.
