New Epiphone Alex Lifeson LP

Maybe I´m crazy, but providing I´d have $900 doing nothing in my pocket - which I don´t -, I´d get one (for the record, I voted for the first option myself :))

Not for the Lifeson name per se (Heck, I´m not even an official Rush fan yet - ringing´ bells @Mossman :) - ) but for all the features. Oh, and for the included gig bag too, as it was mentioned as a thing in another thread a few days ago.

$900 may be a little too much, still. But again, if they were doin´ nothing in my pocket...

FIVE back panels?!?! Controls, tremolo, switch: OK. One more for a battery for the active pickups, I guess. But what the heck is the fifth one?

You'd be hard pressed to find all the same features in an LP style guitar for that much money by any other mainstream builder, epi seems to be doing some good things as of late. Although someone here on AGF has a very nice 3xxx with a trem for sale I think...;-)

Besides the Beatles, Rush is my favorite band, but I never felt a desire for that LP. I suppose all those bells and whistles come in handy for Alex on stage (less guitar swapping, and he does get a convincing acoustic sound out of it), but for my needs, all that stuff is just over-kill, and a Floyd Rose on an LP just seems wrong to me.

Now if Epiphone would do a version of his signature 355, then I might be interested.

On the used market, if it played well and the electronics checked out, i could be interested. This would be a SERIOUSLY versatile instrument.

I´m definitely a one-do-it-all-guitar kind of guy. LP shape or DC LP shape and I´m happy.

Damn it, Alex, why?!?! It was easy to justify not buying the signature Gibson model, but this one is going to be hard to resist if its any good. I'm trying to be patient, and wait for some initial reviews...

I would be very interested if it just did not have that damn Floyd Rose.

No need to say more.

I´ll wait for your NGD thread, Dan :D

I dig it. I do think it's a little too much cash. But that's a pretty guitar, and as others have noted, I bet it's versatile as the day is long.

On the waiting list here for it to arrive and pick it up.

The "Gibby" model goes for over $6K.

May have to clear out some Rondo gear in the next month or so.

$38/month for 24 months 0% financing? NO BRAINER. :)

Awesome! Eagerly awaiting your NGD thread! In the right conditions, yes, a NO BRAINER indeed.

Hey, Patrick, did it arrive?

I just listened to an interview with Alex the other day, and they asked him about his Epiphone sig. I was surprised (or maybe not, really), to hear that he was just as involved with the development of this guitar as he was with the Gibson version back in 2011. Probably more so... He even wrote and filmed all the ads and promotional material himself! One thing about the guys in Rush; they hardly ever put their name on a product, but when they do, it's something they had a hand in developing themselves, and they're 100% behind it.

For another example; Geddy initially wouldn't let Tech 21 make a pedal version of his signature pre-amp, because he doesn't use pedals on stage and he couldn't endorse a product that he doesn't use. I think it took them over a year to convince him to let them make the YYZ pedal (and the DI version), with the argument that not everybody can afford or needs the full rack-mount version. I'm glad he changed his mind, because I could barely afford the pedal! :D

I am sure I would serve my tastes better if I bought a Callisto STD+ and swapped in a vintage style set of Dave Stephens or Throbak, or Fralin or Klein humbuckers.

If those Callisto´s would come with a heel contour, or in DC shape, I´d sell one kidney to get one. After all, I´m just looking for the better high fret access in a LP SC or DC shape. :)

You are one of the best selling advertising for that guitar :)

I voted "cant even look at it" only because there is no option for "just not my thing".
Seems like a well developed product with Alex's involvement.
If the reviews pan out, go for it, especially since you have the cash on hand.

If it was "my thing" I'd be foaming at the mouth waiting / watching the used market until I scored.

@Partscaster - Love your sig line quote!

Speaking of that, I buy almost nothing on payments - always been against paying interest - current credit card interest rates are the modern day "pound of flesh".
Cant get around mortgage interest but I'll be done with that within a year.

I use credit cards for transactions but pay the bill in full each month except for some times I had no choice (boiler went, recent medical bills, etc.)

I'm tempted sometimes though!!

I stopped paying monthly payments (except for electricity, gas, phone) back around 1982 & the longer you live like that the easier it is!
Easier because you have less going out each month! Monthly payments will suck you dry!

Anything with a Floyd Rose is an automatic "no" for me, but if you're into that sort of thing, then this guitar is a great value. I think in this day and age $900 for this kind of guitar along with the case, is not bad at all. Here is an in-depth review.

Thanks! I´ll watch it later. I´m not much into FR, but I do like heel contours on LPs for better high fret access, and the piezo kind of attracts me...

But just for the record, I can´t afford that guitar - or any -. I´m just sharing the emotion :). Patrick Lightwingstudios did get one, though.
