I put in a black pickguard and a metal jack plate instead of the white original ones, and I really like the result.

I usually dislike gold on guitars, but it just works on this one, like it does in an LP Custom.
I had gold covers as well but those took it a bit over the top really.

It has a Gibson 498t/490r pickup set in it, and a roller saddle along with the new black guard. Me like.

I definitely like the black pickguard. I think the gold tailpiece(?) helps tie the gold hardware in more with this one. Niiiiiice.

Nice but I just hate the idea that there is all that nice korina under all that thick black paint. Maybe someday you can strip it and free that beauty. ;)

It's just a veneer anyhow....there's just a thin slab of Korina over mahogany bits and pieces even on natural finish Korina Eiphones. I have owned some and that's the way they are built. In fact I'm not too sure these painted models even have that, I'd suspect they are really just multiple pieces of mahogany under the paint.

That's actually what I like about my Deans of the same price bracet...they are actually just a couple of pieces of wood not a glued together mix of who knows how many pieces like Epis, and you really can tell from acoustic sound of them.

Looks good. I'm a fan of black-on-black. I think a white PG on a black guitar (or any color, really), makes it look cheap. I'm not big on gold hardware, either, but it it looks good on that V.

Are you sure there's just a veneer of Korina under that paint? It doesn't seem logical to go through the trouble of putting a veneer on something just to paint over it. I always thought the whole point of Korina was the appearance of the wood, so it doesn't make sense to me to paint it even if it were solid Korina. Kinda like painting over Ash.

I have been tempted to do a black pg on my black pickguardless V too. I'm leaning toward cream though.

I wish I could find a china supplier of V guards with no control knobs cut out.
