I guess I have no self-respect. Right now I do not need a new guitar... gassing for nothing at all.

Today I felt a twinge of gas when I encountered a used Epiphone Les Paul Classic with some nice upgrades.

There's a voice in my head that keeps on saying "I need an Ibanez AR420, an Agile AD3200 or an Agile AL3200, whichever comes first"!

I'm not off to a good start....I've bought an acoustic, a bass, and an LP style guitar already this year.
In fairness though I sold a bass and 2 guitars to fund my purchases.

I recently met a fella that collected Yamaha acoustic guitars. He told me that he had owned 100's. He would actually buy several of the same model and sell all but the one that sounded best to him. He has sold off most of his collection now. I purchased a 50 year old Japanese made Conn from hm. That is an amazing sounding guitar.

Man, I'm gassing at all kinds of stuff right now. The money is in my savings account where it belongs but man, it's on thin ice.

I'm really gassing for a true Les Paul, Gibson standard or equal, but I also don't have $3k, so I'm not in huge danger LOL

I was looking at the new PRS cores, since when did they jump to almost $6k? That's not too far off from Private Stock prices!!!

I was really gassing for another Friedman to go with my Pink Taco, but I asked Dave to just add a clean channel to it, so my amp gas will be over once that comes back to me in a couple weeks hopefully

I have the beginnings of gas for a Gibson Hummingbird, which was not on my radar scope. I could never justify the cost and now I am rethinking that.

Last year saw several financial mishaps by an unnamed significant other...one involved her buying a 2nd house that some friend in the RE industry sold her on as a 'can't miss' opportunity, turns out...a money pit of course...with bad, irresponsible tenants and repairs that should have been vetted prior to purchase. Second item was her trying to help a family member with a business loan who then disappeared with her 'help' and doesn't answer the phone anymore. She earns a very good salary Thailand-wise but I still had to intervene and bail out some of these miscues to prevent her credit being ruined for life. But that nonsense is over...and 2025 is the year of the new guitar(s). First a trip back to USA in May and then at least 2: a 335 type and something offset or oddball re-issue. One for my birthday in July and one for next Christmas !

May I be as bold as to recommend a Guild Starfire semi-hollow?! In the last few years I have acquired a few 335 style guitars. The Gretsch and Firefly needed some upgrades. The Guild needed nothing but enthusiasm. As far as oddballs and offsets, I have no clue.

I just got an old Ibanez RG560.

Today I saw Ibanez is putting out an RG460. With shark tooth inlays.

And I want it.

GAS is real, folks.

It looks really untouched too...but unfortunately I am about to put out $1100 bucks for my USA flight next month..really wanted to wait until I get back....but if that blue one turns up...ha ha ha. One thing I noticed is that a lot of guitars right now in the shops are out of stock, it seems that the Xmas holiday shopping coupled with China's economic malaise has limited supply here for many of the things I;m interested in. Hopefully mid year things wiil be more available.

It is hard to break decades of taking my time on purchases, especially ones which can reach $5K (there is a 1962 Gibson Hummingbird no Reverb at that price, which is testing my resolve).

I hate to call myself a liar, but here we go... Right after saying I wasn't gassing for any gear, I saw an unmodified SX SJM 62 listed at GC in "great" condition for not crazy money. Yes, it's more than the guitar likely cost new, but still very cheap. So I'm a liar, and this is incoming. But deals like this one are why I look even when I'm not looking for anything specific.

I can recall back in the 2008 time period around when I joined AGF, there were a few people who swore as name brand guitar prices would not keep pace with cumulative inflation, Rondo offerings would. That seems to be the case from what I see of asking and selling prices for Agiles and SX.

I get it.

I had somewhat the same conditions, until I hit 14 years old when my father turned things around. My mom grew up in the ghettos of West Philly, 7th of 7 and her dad died in his 30's when she was 9 (horrible pre-welfare poverty stories from her). My father grew up in then, blue-collar West Philly as the son of a welder. early in my life, dad was sole provider as a draftsman. I did not realize how poor we were, but I recall casserole Monday's, spaghetti Wednesdays, hotdog Fridays every week. I remember I voiced my frustration that we didn't order out from our local pizza place and my dad getting really upset at me for pressuring him, because we just couldn't afford it. Luckily, dad worked at GE which had a college reimbursement program, and he attained his Electrical Engineering degree when I was six. He applied himself at work and moved up, to where I noticed things were markable better.

When my wife and I married, we bought a house and lived paycheck to paycheck, holding jobs and parttime jobs for a long time. Many times, it felt like we were only a few dollars away from the street. I consider myself lucky to be frugal.
