Anyone want to venture a guess as to what kind of wood that is? Is it really a kit? Hard to tell if it has the logo and is well put together.

I'm kind of assuming this is Koa or Mahogany, but I'm not a wood expert.
I'm guessing its Padauk, cut across the grain. Some pics of padauk have those tiny dimples, many dont. I saw one which showed both grain angles and it looks close to what you have.

My guess is mahogany. From the photos, it looks too brown to be padauk, but I am just looking at photos.

Padauk gives a bright and snappy tone from what I understand, if that helps.

just bought 2 "Greer Amps" pedal models.
The Lightspeed is a very popular pedal for light boost. I'd never heard of it til my brother recommended it. Now I see all the good reviews, etc.
Folks rave about it's transparent tone and sensitive feel. I agree, but need more time, play more guitars thru it etc.

The second pedal I got, after watching Mike Herman's demo it, is the Greer Amps "Supa Cobra" overdrive. I'm not much of a bigger gain guy, but I thought I could hear in Herman's demo how great it sounded dialed down. I played it at home, liked it, and last night took it to a friends house music gathering (great chili there) and I am really happy with the Supa Cobra. As one reviewer put it, its like the Lightspeed spent 5 months at the gym. Similar clear properties, quite string sensitive, but more muscular, even while kept down in gain setting. Its got a separate low end gain "Body" knob that is nice in addition to the regular gain knob. Anyhow, thought I'd share.

IMG_0871.jpg
-----------------------

edit: after more playing they are both really good pedals. They will both be on my board.
The Lightspeed sounds great. I can hear the guitars tone clearly within the mild gain. Good big and clear sound, nice string separation.

The Supa Cobra is even greater. With gain up, its like a fuzz...I dont need that often, but there it is.
BUT, with gain almost all off, and the "Body" knob opened way up it has clean/edge of breakup balls. Very good punch. Now my brother will have to get one...Ha, Ha !

I don't think I ever posted this but a few months ago at gc I ran into a Funky old monkey wards mltiuse amp. It has a guitar keys and bass input all wth different tones. I got as a quick gad and go bass amp. I'm guessing about 40 watts. I knew it would be loud enough playing with edrums but wasn't sure at a louder practice but it sounded decent. The kicker is it was only $29!!!
Sometimes GC really delivers the deals.
Anyway I finally got some chance t test it with a band with acoustic drums. For a med heavy drummer at practice it was only marginally loud enough. Not terrible but buried in the mix where I could hear it fair but the guitar didn't hear me much.
Then I got a chance to use it w a friend on edrums so I ran the drums through this amp with the bass then later w a guitar and as a quiet practice setup it worked great. It's a compromise with the single vol knob but it seems all the inputs are buffered or have their own preamps so it's very much a low-end pa.
Killer $30 score

This is kind of silly, but perhaps one of my more useful gear acquisitions lately. Anybody who plays bars knows that it tends to involve a lot of rummaging around on dark stages trying to set things up. So when I was at the pharmacy the other day and saw one of these in a promo bin I had to grab it for my gig-gear box. I intentionally chose yellow because it will be the easiest thing to find in the dark!

A friend of mine and fellow musician stumbled onto a deal way too good to pass up on a Taylor T5. It became his No.1 and made his mint condition Taylor 214 CE Koa expendable. I was at his gig Sunday when he mentioned there was suppose to be a guy showing up to purchase the 214 but he was a no show so far. He told me what he was selling it for and I told him if the guy flakes I'd take it. The next day he messaged me and said I could come get it. I got if for less than half retail for a new one and could not be happier. It quickly vaulted past my other acoustics to be my new No.1. The koa wood, like mahogany has a warmer/darker tone which I love. I had just placed an order for the new and already discontinued Taylor Academy 20e which is made from Walnut. I love acoustics made with tops other than spruce. It came the same day, so I ended up with two new Taylor acoustics on the same day. Life is good.

NPD! Thank you Rob (@andrewsrea) for making me a "Dumblisious" pedal - and then taking the time to video chat me to explain its nuances. It was great to meet you!

This pedal sounds fantastic and inspired me to play all afternoon. With Rob's tutelage I found transparent ODs and smooth-as-butter lead tones.

Before it arrived I watched as many YouTubes as I could to learn about the "Dumble sound" (there is a somewhat agreed-upon tone) and today dialed the pedal to match those. 'Achieved them but I had more fun tweaking it until it sounded "right" to me. As you fiddle with the "fat" and "gain" knobs the gain just gets a more, um... creamy, fat and smooth. Trifecta!

Thanks again, Rob!

I appreciate you considering me for your pedal. Aside from TJ Clark whose signature model and finish this is, you own the first 'production' version!

The one common thread with this pedal and all who have bought one, it seems to lend itself to augmenting the player. As in 'it is my good qualities - just bigger than life.' Everyone seems to have a different use and setting, which really works in a musical group context.

For me, I use it to get Fender Blackpanel breakup, without having to have the high volume that goes with that. I'll occasionally increase level a bit to push the tubes in an amp.

Great seeing you yesterday and hope it brings you years of enjoyment!

have gotten a couple of things recently.

got a jhs notaklon. so far i like it although i'm not sure what combination of overdrives i want to keep on the board yet. basically the relevant part of the board is a jhs milkman (boost/slapback delay), a boss sd1, a mxr sugar drive (fat sugar enclosure), and a jhs angry charlie, plus the notaklon now. for the moment it snagged the sd1 spot but i'm not sure how that'll shake out. also have a boss fz-1w en route that should be here in a few days as i don't have any halfway decent fuzz.

also got an orangewood juniper live, it's a little parlor acoustic rubber bridge thing with a humbucker in it. i actually really like the rubber bridge thing--most of the time when i play acoustic i do some palm and string muting so it kind of has that percussive quality it a little anyway, but that's just sort of how this thing plays. it's less useful i think in the band setting (for it to be heard at all it has to be kind of loud and it's so dark if it's too loud it kind of sounds like a blanket on stuff), but for just playing and singing self-accompanied i think i really like it.

Kind of boring, but finally broke down and bought a proper desk chair for my studio (where I spend hours at a time). My old chair was like a rock, was falling apart and required foam and pillows to be tolerable. It was tough parting with the insane amount of money for this, but well worth it considering how much time I sit here.

It certainly looks comfortable. I need one where the arms can be raised as I do most of my playing at my desk...

That was my requirement as well, I needed arms that could raise. I went with the chair below it’s been great so far.

I've currently got a Herman Miller wannabe which is comfortable enough, but I miss all the padding...

Picked up one of these:

I'm hearing that this is actually the ProAnalog Manticore v2 but ProAnalog failed to pay for work Cusack did, went out of business, and that got them the rights to this. It's based on a Klon:

Also grabbed this thing I was staring at:
because I'd sold my old one want was thinking of grabbing this when @andrewsrea said he wanted to borrow the one he thought I still owned.

It's interesting because we could argue IR does the same thing with presets, but this lets you dial in anything you want to taste.

Got this the other day for cheap, a Critter Electronics "American Fuzz", because it was listed as B-stock, I think because the finish isn't awesome. I traditionally haven't been a big fuzz guy, but the guy behind Critter Electronics seems pretty cool and I figured it was worth a shot to support a small business. After playing around with it for a while, I think my issue with fuzz has been that it doesn't necessarily sound very good on its own, but it can work really well in a mix. This thing works pretty well on bass too, although it is not at all subtle!

I went hog wild at GC's Guitar A Thon and bought some discounted pedals. Unfortunately, one of them was broken so I need to take advantage of the Jackson's VIP warranty:

It actually turns out the Reverb is broken too. But it also has a lifetime warranty like the Jackson audio pedal.
