A quick build, maybe 4-5 hours maximum. Turned out great! Used a neck off a broken Takamine.

That sounds surprisingly good.

Yeah, I don't know if I should be glad it sounds so nice - I was kinda hoping for something that would have a ratty, bluesy or somehow special sound I could create maybe interesting intros etc, but this just sounds like a nylon string basically for all intents and purposes.

Maybe putting electric strings on it and putting a funky old single coil near the neck would produce something along those lines.

I'm sure it would, but I doubt the jerry can could withstand the pull of the electric strings well enough with no separate support inside for the 'top'.

Not at all what I expected from the subject line...i was thinking jerry canTRELL :). It sounds very good though and I like the tune you were playing as well...it that something of your own creation too?

Just randomly picking chords and notes...no song. Although many of my songs do use similar build-on-Open D chord additions.

Brings a different meaning to having GAS for a guitar...

Great project. Good job. A friend of mine built an amp w/a can like that.

Very cool deeaa. You are a creative dude.

Here is a band that plays unique homemade instruments out live.

That sounds better than I was expecting. Better than the commercially-made "oil can" guitars that Sam Ash carried for a (short) while a couple years ago.

Looks like a pickup could fit easily about 1/3 the way up from bridge to neck.
Sounds nice.

Sounds nice.
There's a piezo in the bridge, it is enough for me - can also mic it with a proper large-diaphragm mic if need be.

Turned out great. I see what you mean almost too straight classical considering what a wild creation it is. Amazing tone metal.

So much for tonewoods being important for acoustic guitars.
