NGD - used Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster

This is a somewhat reluctant (or maybe just preliminary) NGD post. I am still waiting to have a few issues addressed. And it may be a little while until I can give it some much needed attention - remove the rusty old strings, polish the frets, clean the fretboard, look under the hood, maybe shielding. Would be nice to get a new nut, but the stock nut is very well lacquered in on the sides. And I don't know if I'll find a Tusq nut that is close, this one seems a bit thicker than typical fender-style nuts.

Looks like a winner on the surface at least, HNUGD!

Nah, it's just a Squier, I think they call it a 70's JM or something like that. It doesn't say anything on the guitar, so I'll have to look up the SN when I get around to it. Updates are coming

Just spent some time playing it, it actually stayed in tune with the old rusty strings after I tuned it with an electronic tuner (I don't tune well by ear). What an addictive guitar! Given that the strings are old, pickups aren't properly adjusted (bridge is lower than it should be to balance out), jack is scratchy when cable turns, it is just oozing with tone. Pickups are surprisingly hotter than my tele (GFS vintage repro), in fact, I plugged the tele in to see how it would compare in the same room and same amp/settings, much weaker. I normally go for weaker pickups, but these are hot without being toneless or sterile, it feels like playing an old american fender, it's just so resonant. And I like all the settings - the rhythm circuit too.
It's probably normal to have to turn up the amp for different guitars, I'll have to spend more time with the tele, but I expected a Jazzmaster to be "vintage" weak for some reason. Wrong. It's a screamer. With all my obsession with SJM's I never really had a chance to play a proper JM and I am totally hooked. I'm a bit cooled off towards the tele, but I can always give it to a friend's kid as his first electric, so no regrets there. I can't wait to get at it and give it the much needed attention. I just spent the longest time playing since I got back into playing a few months ago. Woo-hoo
P.S. After I bought the guitar, I learned that it was mis-labeled, it was sold as "2012 Classic Vibe", but CV Jazzmasters and Jaguars did not exist until recently (the much praised "made in China" Classic Vibe only had strats, teles and basses, I think). This one is made in Indonesia and is a Vintage Modified. So I was able to get a fair discount from the retail seller, based on this misnomer and also a few issues that weren't pictured. From what I'm learning, Fender is combining the CV and VM into a single "Classic Vibe" line produced in Indonesia. I guess there's different opinions about whether that's good or bad, I haven't seen enough instruments to have an opinion.
